Should a 75 year old cancer patient have had a vaccine invitation by now?

My relative is 75 and having chemotherapy for chronic leukaemia, so on the extremely vulnerable list and high priority for the vaccine. She attends hospital daily during her chemo cycles so is very exposed to the virus, but she hasn't had a vaccine invitation yet. She's asked the chemotherapy staff about it but they have no information. Does the invitation come from the GP or from the vaccination centre? How can we find out where she is in the list? She has healthy friends the same age who are already getting appointments.

Depends where they live, some surgeries/trusts have completed their over 80s and have moved down to over 75s or over 70s depending on their allocations. My over 80 relative has their appointment soon, letter received from GP

ToffeePennie · 15/01/2021 18:30

No.
It really depends on where you live, but I have a 93 year old relative with chronic respiratory issues, ulcers and other health problems still waiting.
I am waiting myself - I have had a heart attack, I am on the seriously vulnerable list, I have respiratory disorders, I work in healthcare and I’ve numerous other health reasons.
There are lots of people waiting.

No. Still doing the over 80s and in a lot of areas not co-ordinated by GPs - just centrally working through a list.

They aren't prioritising younger people who are clinically vulnerable.

I have a 93yo DF with her disease, on steroids and had a TIA who hasn't heard anything yet.

countrygirl99 · 15/01/2021 18:32

Heart not her disease

NotGenerationAlpha · 15/01/2021 18:37

Not here. The GPs are still doing the over 80 group!

NotGenerationAlpha · 15/01/2021 18:39

The latest priority list is here
www.gov.uk/government/publications/priority-groups-for-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-advice-from-the-jcvi-30-december-2020/joint-committee-on-vaccination-and-immunisation-advice-on-priority-groups-for-covid-19-vaccination-30-december-2020

Over 75 is in group 3. If cancer is extremely clinically vulnerable it’s group 4, otherwise group 6 if vulnerable. Being a cancer patient is lower priority than over 75. Hope this helps.

AKissAndASmile · 15/01/2021 18:40

She's in group 3 because of her age. Being CV would put her in group 4. Age comes before medical conditions for priority, but there's no additive effect iyswim

OscarWildesCat · 15/01/2021 18:48

No, not necessarily, millions still waiting.

Yogamad38 · 16/01/2021 12:20

Still doing the over 80's group where I live plus NHS Workers, then will move down to the next priority group- health issues don't have any influence. I had my Covid jab early December as NHS Worker and CEV but if wasn't NHS Staff would be priority 4.

nether · 16/01/2021 12:24

No, not yet

The roll out is currently for priorities 1 and 2

Are 75+ is priority 3

Living with cancer is priority 4 or priority 6, depending on which cancer and what stage of treatment.
