I didn’t realise she was 80- I hope I have her drive and energy when I reach 80 years old- I cant imagine I’ll be wanting to impeach presidents by then- potter in my garden maybe. She’s so dignified and inspiring.

Aibu to think she’s cool?

She only really got going with her political career aged 47 after the youngest of her 5 children started college.

Amazing and inspiring woman !

Yes. Awesome. And Hillary too. How different history could have been with Hillary in the White House with Pelosi leading the House.

‘She only really got going with her political career aged 47 after the youngest of her 5 children started college’

I thought the link says she’d been hosting democratic parties/events at her house whilst the kids were growing so although she didn’t officially kick off her own campaign until the youngest went to college, she was a behind the scenes organiser for a while.

She’s an incredible woman with the drive of a formula 1 car and has so much integrity.

I had no idea she was 80!
Her speech yesterday, when she was almost in tears about the Holocaust, was very moving.
What an inspirational woman she is.

Biscoffaddict · 16/01/2021 09:23

I can’t believe she is 80!

Breakthesilence12 · 16/01/2021 09:39

I’m 47 and knackered from raising 2 kids and working full time so raising 5 kids and then going on to have such a high profile political career is even more amazing!

The world needs more women like Nancy.
She’s an inspiration.

With regards to her age, I think that she is a good example of how we are supposed to age. Today there are so many examples of women (and men) in the 70s, 80s and beyond who are aging in a completely different way to the norm of a little old lady, with a blue rinse sitting in an armchair all day.

Look at Prue Leith, Mary Berry, Joanna Lumley, Helen Mirren, Tina Turner, Goldie Hawk, Jane Fonda, the list goes on....

It’s a mindset. I know plenty of real life women like this too.

I for one intend to age this way!

Breakthesilence12 · 16/01/2021 10:15

@homeedder1979 yes me too! I think it’s true that interaction, having a role etc is important.

I think it’s why lockdown is so bad for out mental health- it’s not good for us to to be stuck at home, not seeing people etc Interaction is good for us in so many ways & I feel like the lack of it has made me a bit acrophobic and not myself.

*Goldie Hawn lol.

BrassicaBabe · 16/01/2021 10:18

Whoop. I'm 47. There's time for me yet!

homeedder1979 · 16/01/2021 10:20

@Breakthesilence12

Totally agree. It’s so so so unhealthy. We are social creatures by nature. Even those introverts amongst us get so much out of even ‘light’ social interaction. I think lockdown will knock a lot of people’s confidence.

I just pray we will all make up for it in a big way when this is over!

LemonTT · 16/01/2021 10:30

Nope, I think she is part of the problem for the democrats and the US. She needs to go as Majority Leader. To be replaced by someone with more bipartisan relationships.

Nothing to do with her age btw. But she is too divisive and cannot reach out across the floor. Which is what Biden needs if he is to achieve anything.

Her grandstanding might not be as bad a Trump, it could not be. But it is bad.

ShastaBeast · 16/01/2021 10:51

She is brilliant and stands for the right things for most Americans so I back her politics. However she was born to a politically connected family and married a wealthy man. No way was she juggling it all by herself with five kids and a household. Sadly that’s the way of the world and so many of the women who have broken barriers have been from privileged backgrounds. It’s just not so easy/almost impossible for ordinary women to do the same. It’s great she used her position but don’t compare yourself.

emptydreamer · 16/01/2021 11:04

Interesting, because I am fascinated by her as well. She also has a bunch of children, must have been really hard to combine with her career.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/01/2021 11:40

We shouldn't be amazed. We have our own examples, Baroness Hale for example (admittedly "only" 75). Nancy Pelosi's only 2 years older than Joe Biden, and 14 years younger than David Attenborough and the Queen. What makes it amazing is partly her vigour and energy at that age, and partly because we are so used to women being brushed out of public life as soon as they hit the menopause.
