Birth certificate woes

My understanding is that a short Birth Cert does not include the details of the parents.
The long form, which is called the Certified Copy can be bought at the time of registering.

Is that right?

My application to open a child bank account for my 11 yo son has been rejected 4 million times because first they said the DOB on the application form didn't match the birth cert.

They didn't tell me this at the time of rejection, it was only once I finally got to talk to an actual person I found out. She checked and there was NO discrepancy, but because it had been rejected she said it was quicker to start again.

Rejected. No reason given. I thought maybe it wasn't clear enough, or they want a scanned version not a photo.
Rejected. No reason given.
Rejected. Needs to be original cert not a registered copy
Rejected. Needs to show relationship between mother (applicant) and son (account holder).

To be clear, the registered copy is not a copy I've sent off for, nor a photocopy, it is the original thick cream paper with red ink one issued at the time of registering the birth.

I actually do not know what to do. I bank at this bank so it should be more straight forward.

Does he have a passport? If he does go to the Nationwide, they only wanted to see photo ID when I opened DD’s bank account last summer.

Also I don’t have my ‘original’ birth certificate my lovely daft father managed to lose it. So I have a copy from the GRO and I’ve gotten mortgages, bank accounts, passports with it. NatWest are talking rubbish!

Is it because you are scanning it? Our bank you have to go into the branch and they have to take a copy of the original themselves and sign it. They won’t accept digital copies or photo copies. We can do the online / over phone application part but still have to take the physical copy into the branch.

You can only apply online or by post at the moment. I don't have a branch nearby any more and even if I did I don't think they're letting people in for anything other than urgent matters, are they?

It's not an essential trip anyway.

I have explained up thread that they use an App to accept proof of ID.

Are you persevering with NatWest because you bank with them?

I ask because I opened two children’s bank accounts this time last year with Barclays, but as I’m a customer I acted as ‘introducer’. We did a video call and I showed their passports (I think I had to send photos too) and it was done, the whole thing, in about 40 minutes. That was for two. My kids were with me at the time which probably made a difference also.

I guess my point is to try where you bank and see if they do video chat.

She already Banks with Natwest

MustardMitt · 14/01/2021 12:33

Oops! Sorry I missed that in the OP.

Sounds like they don’t know their arse from their elbow.

Angel2702 · 14/01/2021 12:46

Nationwide you have to take the ID into branch with the rest of the process on the phone.

dementedpixie · 14/01/2021 12:49

Thats not what it says online. It says you can do it fully online

dementedpixie · 14/01/2021 12:50
