DS12 does. He likes playing football / rugby / just running around there every day sometimes in the dark. He has a pair of older shoes he can use when it is muddy (i.e. always). He probably likes the fresh air.

The old house, with the large garden, we used it a lot, especially silly during summer months when we had the paddling pool up

This house, the garden is tiny. There’s no grass, and no where really for them to play.

I put up the pool in the summer with some mats underneath, and they used it, but that’s the only time they really used it

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 12/01/2021 16:05

My 3 (5yrs, 3yrs and 2yrs) are out in the garden most days all year round

Peanutbutterblood · 12/01/2021 16:08

From March onwards I'm in the garden with my dds everyday. We play, grow veggies and flowers and relax. Last lockdown there were lots of days where we only came in for meals. Mine are too young to be unsupervised but I can sit out with a book or laptop while they play to

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 12/01/2021 16:11

Mine don’t use it at all in winter months. Spring/summer they will use it more - the highlight is always getting the paddling pool out/ or messing around with the hose.
We don’t have a trampoline- which I think is a big draw for kids that do have them.
We live very near several parks which they use all the time.
If I turned the garden into a skatepark they would definitely use it 😂

hiredandsqueak · 12/01/2021 16:14

We never use the garden. I hang the washing out May to September, the dog goes out for a pee before bed most nights and the gardener cuts the grass March to October other than that it's not used.

ComDummings · 12/01/2021 16:16

In the summer they’re in and out of the garden all day when we are at home, not so much in the winter, I have to drag them outside. I don’t blame them though.

ListeningQuietly · 12/01/2021 16:18

Each evening before bed, go out and look at the sky - even if its raining.
See where the moon is.

If you are able, get hold of an old washing machine drum to make a brazier and have winter fires.

Its about making "outdoors" part of everyday life

trilbydoll · 12/01/2021 16:22

Not in this weather. In the Spring/Summer DH will do obstacle courses / races round the garden with them and they've got a climbing frame / trampoline. We've also got a little tent and we'll camp for a few nights when it's warm enough.

Tbh I think we are just all too lazy to put all the layers on that you need in winter, it's one of the reasons skiing doesn't appeal to me! They are much more likely to go out when it's basically just an extension of the kitchen and they don't need shoes, coats etc.

longhaulstress · 12/01/2021 16:23

Not at all in winter months so probably not from October to somewhere in March.

Last year when the weather was good we were out there lots and it was lovely. Looking forward to the warmer months and we can get back out.

Iggi999 · 12/01/2021 16:24

Mine is also wet all winter and we don't have a paved bit. Love the idea of going out every night to look at the stars

Danni91 · 12/01/2021 16:28

As much as they can really, but we have a nice sized garden and a tiny tiny house so its better for them really.

The 2 year old has decided against it a fair bit this month but i dont / wont force them. It will soon be spring & they will be out there daily again no doubt!

10 year old would pitch a tent and live in their if he could.

I'd love to buy one if those big fancy wooden cabins/sheds for them next year.

NightOwl19 · 12/01/2021 16:32

When it's warmish and dry the kids are out there everyday but when it's cold and wet not a chance

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 12/01/2021 16:33

We have a large garden and my children would not even go outside even in summer I have to false them to go in the garden. I’m always out in the garden is summer and my Children will just pop there head out and then go back in the house.

Imapotato · 12/01/2021 16:34

Mine are teens now and don’t go in the garden at all over the winter months. When they were little they would play out a lot in the summer, and sometimes in the winter (more when we had a trampoline).

Now they will venture into the garden for a brief amount of sunbathing, a family bbq or if I can be bothered to put the pool up, we still have a fairly large paddling pool which they will use in nice weather (as long as I put it up for them!).

In the summer I’m in the garden all the time. Pottering about, reading, having a relaxing coffee. I was so glad to have a garden during lockdown 1. Not using it much at the moment though as it’s too cold!

Iwantacookie · 12/01/2021 16:34

Really depends. We get virtually zero shade in our back garden so I encourage them to do more inside things in the few hours of blazing hot weather.
Since the weather starts turning they barely use it. Although ds2 is out on the patio kicking a ball most days.

Leagueofgentlemenfan · 12/01/2021 16:37

We have a large garden, large grass area for football /tennis etc and then we put in a play area for the kids, they've got a trampoline, slide, swings, climbing frame, etc. In summer we've got a large paddling pool we put up and it stays up. We spend nearly all our time outside from spring til autumn. We even eat our meals out there.
Over winter we don't go out there tho. For me, outside space is very import. I don't like being in the house in summer. If I am, all doors and windows have to be open. But.... My husband does all the garden maintenance. Large hedges to be cut, grass cutting, weeing etc. If I was on my own I couldn't do it. I would rather have a small outdoor space that was fenced, slabbed and just a few pretty pots, a seating area

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/01/2021 16:40

My oldest three kids got great use out of the garden between the ages of 2-11.

My 9 year old has never liked being in the garden. There was a time preschool he would follow me outside if gardening but that was to stand and talk to me. Never to play.

I think it depends on your childs personality if they like to be outside.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/01/2021 16:41

Not in January. We packed the trampoline up in November after high winds and the lawn is a bit of a bog at the moment.

ParkheadParadise · 12/01/2021 16:42

All the time
We have a large garden. It's full of kiddie crap, swings, chute, trampoline and a house for small people 🤣🤣.
Since Yesterday when homeschooling started I've used it as a playground for breaks.

TheCap · 12/01/2021 16:43

Not really. They have a trampoline, which they sometimes use in the spring/summer but I wouldn't say they use the garden a lot.

Enb76 · 12/01/2021 16:46

Mine is 12 - she'd be permanently in the garden if she could. She's out in all weathers. Mind you, we don't have a lot of electronics in the house or other pastimes except reading and we have a climbing tree, a pond and a trampoline.

Tal45 · 12/01/2021 16:49

We never really used the garden, then a couple of years ago we got a bbq, table, fire pit and big bean bags and we do use it a lot more now (well in the spring/summer). I started growing veggies and put in a couple of strawberry beds and some raspberry canes during lockdown 1.

Mrsmummy90 · 12/01/2021 16:51

Two toddlers and in warm months, yes but currently no.
I hate our garden. There are soooo many bugs no matter what we do.

Redviolet1 · 12/01/2021 16:51

Mostly yabu? In what way?
