My family and I just went to our local Frankie & Bennies for lunch. They are having a themed weekend - halloween and the staff are dressed up as witches, vampires etc etc. One of the staff was dressed in an orange jump suite with the phrase 'committed to psycho ward' printed on the back........ and he was wearing a Hannibal mask. I couldn't quite believe my eyes. I'm not sure where enduring mental illnesses fall into the halloween theme and I certainly don't think this was a suitable outfit for a family restaurant. Is it me?! (and no, this hasn't hit a nerve because me or any of my family or friends have mental illnesses. I am a nurse, but not even a psychiatric one - this just seemed really tasteless to me!)

and you can choose to go elsewhere

No, I agree with Violet - Lecter is a human murderer - a representation of people who do exist in RL. Zombies and the rest of it are just made up, and I doubt that there can be very many people who find them truly frightening.

No, it's not bad, just halloween fun.

You dont have 'psychopath wards' though do you?

Its 'psychiatric wards' and people with all kinds of MH problems will be admitted - this 'costume' feeds into the common misconception by those with limited knowledge of MH issues, that all people suffering with a mental illness are potential killers.

I haven't read the whole thread but YANBU. It seems a bit insensitive.

A psychopath is generally someone who is suffering from 'antisocial personality disorder' which is a psychiatric illness.

well yes a psycopath is suffering from a mental health problem..

and just to throw something else in all sorts of mental illnesses can lead to psychotic episodes
