I’m thinking of giving myself highlights at home on my own with a dye/bleach from a supermarket 🙈😳 yey or neigh?

Hairdresser done it a couple of weeks ago but it’s too yellow/brassy. She used a toner on it as well, but they all seem to do that these days.

I used to go to a brilliant hairdresser for years and she always got it the nice creamy blonde colour first time. Never put a toner on it ever, it just always lifted to a lovely colour. Sadly she passed away.

I’ve tried 3 different hairdresser and none of them get the nice creamy colour. One of them made it orange highlights after I’d explicitly said I want cream ones and I hate the yellow brassy colour, where it hasn’t lifted long enough. So why she thought I’d like the orange ones is unbelievable.

None of these are young trainees. We’re taking about women in their 40’s that own the salon yet still can’t seem to give me what I ask, but fail to mention that!

If they said it will take 2 trips to get that colour then fair enough but to nod and say ‘yeah yeah yeah’ and then I end up in tve sane situation again....

Obviously I know it can be lifted to the lovely colour I used to always have it, so why can’t anyone else do it? I don’t have black hair! It’s dark blonde naturally.

It never mattered how big my roots were, my original hairdresser still always got it the perfect colour.

I mean, what’s going on?

I used to use bleach myself with my friend when we were about 18 and to be fair it was a descent colour.

I was thinking of buying the lightest blonde shade and getting some tin foil and doing some ready small fine ones around the front?

If can’t be any worse than the brassy yellow it is now....

I’m too scared to do a full on blonde box dye as it would be harder to hide that!!

This happened to me! My ex salon were always able to achieve my desired cream colour without damage. Then my stylist left after lockdown and moved cities, so I went to a new salon. My new stylist is very good and tries his best, but so far it’s taken multiple attempts and lots of damage to maintain my current colour. I’m guessing it’s a difference in products or my hair has just become difficult to lift

Obv don’t do it yourself

Oh and I certainly don’t have the best hair to work with. It’s fine flyaway shitty hair but the last time I had the highlights you can see the conditions has deteriorated with all the fly seats wisps/snapped off bits.

So it’s not like I can think they were doing it so to save the condition of my hair....

It’s a pitty you couldn’t ask your old hairdresser what exactly it was that she used and it what quantities.

Yes I suppose the products will play a part in it too but you’d think they would know what products to use to get the extra lift.

I’m pleased you got there in the end. It bludy puts me off ever going back
