AIBU to point out that AIBU means Am I Being Unreasonable?!

zoomiecraziness · 11/01/2021 20:07

Like most of us on MN, I have a list of favourite topics that I like to read... I like the doghouse, property, chat etc. And I like AIBU.

But I'm getting annoyed at what quite frankly I think is laziness to fine the right topic, there seems to be a growing number of AIBU posts that a blatantly not AIBU questions! The answers do not require the opinion of YABU or YANBU!

The topic header is there for a reason! It's not hard to find the chat topic, or employment topic, or style and beauty topic or what topic the thread is about is it?!!

So, AIBU to be so irritated by this?!

Me neither - see you there!

zoomiecraziness · 11/01/2021 20:38

I know I'd be seen as the one being a dick but I find it very hard to stop myself replying to these threads with the question "WTF is the AIBU question OP?!"

OP posts:
Fatfunt · 11/01/2021 20:39

Yabvu for starting the title as aibu 🙄

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2021 20:39

There was a thread earlier today saying people ABU to moan about people not posting in the right section though. Apparently it does not matter.

zoomiecraziness · 11/01/2021 20:40

@MindGrapes yes I do that too, look at active threads, and I also have about 5 topics that I have listed as favourites that I like to look at.

CrotchBurn · 11/01/2021 20:40

@MindGrapes
Nope! I do a few psychological push ups, a few neck cracks, and make a beeline for AIBU!

If I'm feeling frivolous I go to style, and if I'm in a more serious mood I go to Relationships. Only read there though, never post. I can be a bit goady and that wouldnt be fair at all in Relationships.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 11/01/2021 20:42

Yanbu.

And I'd also like to point out that as AIBU stands for Am I Being Unreasonable you don't need to say am I AIBU? Which I've seen a few times lately .

I love the self awareness Grin

GhostCurry · 11/01/2021 20:43

@CrotchBurn

But it's because literally nobody looks at the other sections. It's a vicious cycle
This.

There are plenty of other boards but this is the liveliest and the one most likely to get replies. So it’ll keep happening - pointless getting cross about it!

BornIn78 · 11/01/2021 20:49

YANBU.

There’s a thread on here asking whether anyone has seen Seville oranges in the supermarkets ffs. Not even pretending to be any kind of AIBU.

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2021 20:51

I think there are loads of posters who never even venture out of AIBU.

I do sometimes wonder what we could collectively achieve as women if we all left mumsnet one day Grin

(Jk, sort of - some of the threads keep me sane. Not many, mind)

zoomiecraziness · 11/01/2021 20:58

Fuck it I'm doing it! I'm replying YABU or YANBU on threads that blatantly aren't asking the question just to make a point! This is what my life has come to! Grin

I made this same thread a few months back!!! Completely agree with you. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4026920-AIBU-to-be-utterly-fed-up-with-the-AIBU-board-being-a-dumping-ground-for-any-old-thread

Syal · 11/01/2021 21:09

Not unreasonable but probably a bit petty (though sometimes I do love being petty, it can feel so cathartic when someone’s really annoyed me 😂).

You commenting yabu or yanbu is just as irritating as them posting it in the wrong section. Just don’t read on if it’ll annoy you. There’s plenty of other AIBU to read and other people obviously don’t mind if they’re responding to it.

zoomiecraziness · 11/01/2021 21:12

@Syal but until I read it I don't know that it's not an AIBU.. only once I've read it do I know that!

And me posting YABU is meant to be irritating to them to make the point that they're in the wrong topic area!

But you are right.. I am petty! Grin

@Takemetothebar

YANBU.

And the “am I pregnant?” ones are just the fucking worst. How would we know?! Take a fucking test.

Here is my handy-dandy "Am I pregnant?" flowchart.
AIBU to point out that AIBU means Am I Being Unreasonable?!
Worst · 11/01/2021 21:20

YABU 😝

Syal · 11/01/2021 21:28

I doubt some people will know that’s why you’re posting YABU. It was only when I read someone’s response to a post a couple of days ago explaining this would be better in chat that I realised there were other sections 🙈 (I’m new to MN, a friend sent a link direct to AIBU and I didn’t explore further) so might be similar for others.

Just seems a bit unnecessary e.g for the recent one where the OP was just trying to lighten things for people with date stories (honestly gave me a much needed laugh after a stressful day). With things as crap as they are it doesn’t hurt to cut people a bit of slack, then again maybe because I’m new I haven’t had enough time to get irritated by improper mumsnet etiquette, I’ll have to review my opinion in a few months.

You don't know how often I want to do this... I'm a proper old MN gimmer and it really annoys me when people just post any old shite in here when there are DEDICATED BOARDS for their questions. It really has become a vicious circle. 'AIBU to consider the name Kevenne?' ASK IN THE BLOODY BABY NAME BOARD, oh but no one is going to reply because everyone is on AIBU...

I feel better for that.

OrigamiOwl · 11/01/2021 21:40

@Pinkywoo

YANBU, and if everyone posted in the appropriate section then "posting for traffic" would be obsolete as all the other topics would have more traffic!
Absolutely this!
covidaintacrime · 11/01/2021 21:49

YABU, OP, I'll answer any old shit on any old thread Grin

AlannaOfTrebond · 11/01/2021 22:03

Even worse, the ones who think they are being so clever by posting "Am I being unreasonable to ask you all to ( insert some sort of shite action). Yes you fucking are, piss off and post it somewhere more appropriate.

Or "Am I being unreasonable to want to....." No we're not the bloody thought police, you can want to do things all you want, whether you would be unreasonable to actually do the aforementioned thing is another matter.

As for "Another plane has gone down" and similar with voting enabled. What on earth are people supposed to vote about.

Thank you for posting a genuine AIBU and for giving me a chance to vent some of my pent up anger via my keyboard.
