To think whispering in the workplace is not good..

Does anyone else work in a workplace where there is a lot of whispering? Often by middle/lower management.

I do, and it's really getting to me.

I don't know if I am unreasonable to feel like this, and it's a sign my mental health is slipping, or if it's a legitimately distressing thing.

Whispering was actually banned at my old workplace because it was used as a form of bullying - some people whispering would stare at whoever they were talking about making it patently obvious plus some whisperers were less than quiet so colleague’s confidential info was overheard by other people. They made it a rule that if it couldn't be discussed at normal speaking volume at your desk you had to use a side office for your conversation.

Why are you in an office OP in any case at present? Shouldn't you be wfh?

@peak2021

I didn't say I was in an office. I said workplace.

If you heard your name mentioned I'd ask them what they said.

I think whispering in front of others is very rude, and a bit childish. If someone wants to talk in private then they should speak in another room.

I don't believe it's conducive to fostering positive mental health in the workplace.
