Best exercises to tone stomach

I know this isn’t overly important in the light of what’s going on at the moment - but has anyone found any exercises that really hope tone the stomach?! I’m finding it hard to get motivated to get back into exercise , I don’t think the weather is helping with the motivation!

All kinds of planks are meant to be pretty darn good.

I signed up for Kari Pearce Cross Fit Power Abs. 10 minutes every day. It's tough but definitely improved core strength.

You really need to have a healthy, balanced diet within your daily calorie and macro limits combined with both strength and cardiovascular exercise.

You can do loads of planks, sit-ups, crunches etc which will improve your core strength, but if you have a lot of excess fat stored around your stomach you won’t really be able to see the ‘tone’.

I’d probably recommend weight training a couple of times a week, along with some Pilates and some core strength training sessions a couple of times a week. If you can do some HIIT or running/skipping etc alongside, you should see some improvement!

There are tons of short abs workouts on YouTube. However, if you have any fat around your middle, you won't be able to see your abs - there is a saying that 'abs are made in the kitchen'.

Good core strength is really important especially as we get older for stability but abs are only visible if you have very low body fat.

I got down to 7st 12lb and still couldn't see mine!

ZaraW · 11/01/2021 14:57

Agree with everyone else if you want defined abs you need low body fat

Crunchiest?

Yep, fat loss overall is the best thing. You don't need to do much dedicated ab work as those muscles are worked doing pretty much any exercise. If you do too many ab exercises without losing body fat overall ot can look worse, as the muscle develops under the fat layer and makes it protrude more, making your middle chunkier.

Do a mix of short hiit workouts, longer light cardio, and some strength/toning exercises.

If you're not averse to seeking external help, there are a couple of cosmetic treatments that might do the trick! PHI Clinic in London do a combination treatment where they use something called coolsculpting to reduce fat and then follow it with trusculpt, which is one of those electrical impulse devices, that tones up muscles. I should mention that I haven't had these myself but I do regularly visit PHI for other treatments and their doctors and nurses are amazing.
