That travelling from London to Bristol by the PM is not an essential journey

No need for the Prime Minister to travel to Bristol to a vaccination centre, indeed no need to go there at all.

The Prime Minister by not travelling anywhere except the short distance to the House of Commons should set an example.

I don't think he needed to travel to Bristol, especially from London where the infection rates are high at the moment, Bristol rates are not as high. If we are not allowed to be travelling about then I don't know why he needs to.

DdraigGoch · 11/01/2021 21:14

It's his work.

Mrsjayy · 11/01/2021 21:14

Surely. The prime minister is working ?

bunwell · 11/01/2021 21:17

He’s useless but it is his job. He can’t win.

Ponoka7 · 11/01/2021 21:17

The same argument is being had over sportspeople. But again, it's coming under work.

In Boris's case, he could have done a Zoom call and could have WFH. So the government isn't following its own guidance.

Mrsjayy · 11/01/2021 21:22

If the pm had zoomed in people would be saying he was only be looking after himself or something

Livelovebehappy · 11/01/2021 21:26

Of course he can. It’s his job! The rules are that you can travel if it’s necessary for work, and I would say this is part of his job? Or do you think he should stay holed up in number 10, and then get accused of skiving?

yellowhighheels · 11/01/2021 21:28

I'm with you, OP. London has higher infection rates so he and his entourage (I presume he didn't go alone but willing to stand corrected) could have helped spread the virus to a less badly affected area. I understand that part of his job is to show other areas of the country that he is engaged with them and it's not all about Westminster but I think a live call would have been more appropriate here and set a better example. I think we all saw from Dominic Cummings how important it is for the leaders to model good behaviour, not saying this is quite the same as a personal visit and spurious eye test.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/01/2021 21:31

It's a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Had he done it via video conference there would have been a thread moaning he hadn't gone in person, with broadly similar voting percentages. Personally, no I don't think it was the best move but his office obviously thought it was. I can't get het up over it.

HisNibs · 11/01/2021 21:50

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he stays holed up at no.10, he's accused of hiding. What's it to be?

Spiratedaway · 11/01/2021 21:51

I can't actually believe there is a post about this !!! He is the prime minister seeing the vaccine sights Jesus

Cismyfatarse · 11/01/2021 23:03

He is the Prime Minister of the whole country, not just of London.

Calmandmeasured1 · 11/01/2021 23:14

What about the journalists and cameramen? Should they not travel to cover the story of the new vaccination centres opening too?
