To insist on a hysterectomy in my late 20's?

Bumarse · 09/01/2021 13:31

I have birthed three children and I'm %100 certain that I don't want any more. I almost lost my life during childbirth last time.

After each pregnancy my hormones have become more out of whack. I feel like crap during ovulation and then have awful PMS in the run up to my period so badly that I'm fairly sure it's actually PMDD im dealing with. It is debilitating and affecting my productivity and ability to function well as a parent.

I have hormonal adult acne that isn't responding to treatment which is minor in the grand scheme of things but just adds to matters.

I also have a bladder prolapse and noted uterine descent that is only going to get worse.

Synthetic hormones don't agree with me so I can't go back on the pill, injection or implant as they turn me loopy. I can't try the coil because of my prolapse.

I'm so sick of hormones controlling my life I would welcome the menopause with open arms.

WIBU to plead my case to my GP and insist I want a hysterectomy or will they laugh me out of the surgery due to my age?

Hi op I think your best bet is to ask for a referral to a gynecologist, they can go through all the symptoms and what ur options could be. Surgical or non surgical

Serenschintte · 09/01/2021 19:46

Google Dr Maryon Stewart. She helped me to completely get rid of my Pmt. it’s diet, exercise and supplements. It works. Takes about three months to help the nutrition levels up in your body but then the pmt is gone.
She has books but she used to also offer a telephone consultation service to help you and prescribe supplements etc

Didiplanthis · 09/01/2021 19:46

If you can afford it, it may be worth trying to see a gynaecologist with an interest in PMT privately to discuss your options. There may not be anyone with the degree of specialist knowledge locally so you may need to travel. The NHS services may be limited in the options they can offer as they are bound by local/national protocol and pathways.

I'm not a specialist so I won't try to answer. What I will say is 'Don't be fobbed off just because you don't fir the stereotype'! Many conditions present in lots of different ways and if you're unlucky enough not to have the classic symptoms, I think it makes it harder to get an NHS referral - unfairly so. You're clearly suffering and you need to see a specialist.

Do some research on PMDD.

Apparently you need to take natural nit synthetic oestrogen but I have no idea if you can buy this in the UK?? So advises to take magnesium, Vit B6 and Taurine. I take those 3 supplements and it has helped with my hideous PMT/PMDD.

Iwonder08 · 09/01/2021 22:19

OP, screw GP. Go private, get yourself a good gynecologist specialised on hormones disorder and get yourself treated for all the conditions you have. At the very least they will give an unbiased realistic view on hysterectomy.

QuentinWinters · 09/01/2021 22:20

I am not sure you need a hysterectomy but you definitely need to see a gynaecologist.
This might help

I had a hysterectomy without removal of ovaries when I was 37 only menopausal now at 56
However the hormone side has been very minor - it was the immense flooding due to fibroids and pain along with constant bladder infections and dragging feeling from prolapse that were the main issues
It depends on the causes but if I had to pay privately I would’ve done so - it changed my life

Scaredykittycat · 09/01/2021 22:37

It is so hard to get. One of my friends had 4 children (all c sections) and she was told she couldn’t have any more as it was too dangerous. She asked to have her tubes tied during her final section and they refused. Said she was too young! (Mid 30’s) so her husband had to get a vasectomy instead. Insanity.

You can definitely push. But do be prepared for a battle. And a long wait in the event they agree, given it won’t be deemed urgent and they have such a massive backlog due to Covid.

SquirtleSquad · 09/01/2021 22:45

My gynae consultant has point blank refused until I am 35. I've been begging for 3 years. I have had 3 children and do not want any more.
I have severe menstral problems to the point I have had to leave my work, have a blue badge due to mobility and pain caused, take 7 medications a day and have endured numerous laparoscopic surgeries.
I'm currently pursuing PALS for help.

I’m in a similar position OP and can’t take hormones due to a medical condition I have. I’ve been totally desperate but am seeing a glimmer of hope 6months after having the mirena coil fitted. Have you tried it/can you have it?

Cocacolathanks · 09/01/2021 23:45

Sorry I’ve not read the whole thread but just wanted to add my experience so far so I can keep up with the thread.

I’ve had 3 kids and am still about 3-4 years away from 30.

After my 3rd child I knew 100% I did not want to get pregnant ever again. I had anxiety about getting pregnant again especially because my 1st and 2nd pregnancies happened while I was on birth control.

At my postnatal checkup with my GP, she was ready to discuss birth control with me. I immediately made my intentions clear and said I was extremely anxious about pregnancy to the point where I couldn’t have sex due to fear of falling pregnant again (exaggerated a little bit but wanted to highlight that it was affecting my mental health).

She reluctantly agreed to refer me onwards. I was told to contact my local clinic for an IUD (temporary basis, which never happened) and then she referred me to somewhere else but right now I’ve totally forgotten. This was just a month or two before Covid and lockdown so everything went to shit.

I never got the IUD and my sterilisation plans were halted.

I still want to get sterilised and am hoping to restart my attempts.

Has anyone been sterilised early in life and had any major issues from it? Would love to hear.

Just say you identify as a bloke and they'll whip it out for you m, no questions asked.

StillMedusa · 10/01/2021 01:34

I had a hysterctomy at 35... family complete, moderate bladder , bowel and uterine prolapse (thanks kids!) and horrible periods.
It was life transforming . However they left my ovaries due to my age and now I'm on hrt as when they failed, I felt dreadful. It didn't cure the prolapses either but definitely helped.. I'll never be 'pre kids' normal but day to day I feel ok. It's not cure all, and you have to be very persistent to be taken seriously.

Crosswithlifeatm · 10/01/2021 01:44

I've been waiting for a year so far and I know I've got a long wait ahead.

Branleuse · 11/01/2021 10:39

OP, Youre younger than me, but I had PMDD for years and birth control made it worse because I dont tolerate progestogen very well and hormonal birth control is basically that.
I am a lot more balanced on HRT but only when I take the oestrogen part. The progestogen part is not so helpful. I wonder if you would be too young for trying a low dose of oestrogen, or whether a private consultation might be more open to trying something like this.

Also have you ever tried Agnus castus. Its a herbal supplement that is really good for balancing hormones and it really helped with my PMS/PMDD before I went on HRT
