How do you get a legal document signed if you are in isolation?

Posting here for traffic. DH seriously ill with Covid - on oxygen. I have no symptoms at the moment but do have a sore throat now. Worried about what will happen to our 12 year old if I get ill as well. We have no family in the area. His godparents live 100s of miles away. My best friend and her husband would look after him but how do I make that formal? I found forms for temporary guardianship online but they need to be signed by an official and we are all in isolation.
Just hoping someone either has legal knowledge or has been in the same position
Thanks

When you say “signed by an official” what do you actually mean, as normally these would be signed by the parents. If you’re concerned about a witness you could get someone to watch you through a window, post them out and they can witness.

If you are in England, call the Law Society and ask them to recommend a solicitor / firm local to you who do wills AND family law. Or go to their website and search there. Solicitors are all working from home providing their usual services.

They will advise you on your options. Please do not listen to well meaning but unreliable advice online.

The requirements for signing documents have been changed to accommodate covid restrictions and there WILL be a workaround available to you.

Good luck OP.

When I was buying/selling a house my solicitor witnessed my signature over a video call.

You should be able to find an option for acceptable digital signatures. Using the right software, that tracks and verifies signatures and source, is a legal solution. I use it for legal documents and switched on solicitors should know about this.

Hope your DH recovers soon.

There are online/ onscreen ways of doing this/ signatures etc at the moment. Talk to your solicitor/ The Law Society.
Get well soon though! Flowers
