AIBU to boast about this.

I am sorry to boast about this. But I have been on Mumsnet for so many years. I have to celebrate with the people who have provided virtual help to me when I was feeling low, about to give up... particularly to the Mumsnetters on the AIBU, Relationship, SEN and Chat Boards. I have NC as this is very identifying. But I....

But to start from the beginning.... Had DD child at 15. Found out DD was autistic. Devastated. Spent over £ 10,000 and most of my savings on private therapy and schooling on her. No help. DD's dad had been physically, emotional and sexually abusing throughout the years. Lockdown came, I was juggling exams, work whilst schooling and entertaining my DD. Four weeks prior to my summer exams, altercation with DD's dad left me in hospital. Thanks to the tireless help of Mumsnetters, I took the courage and took DD's dad to court. He is now out of our lives. But 26, I attended my virtual graduation today and have an MSC in speech and Language therapy and currently work with Adults who have Mental Health, learning disabilities, Aphasia and complex neuromotor disorders. I love it!

I'm crying as I'm typing this. I'm a private person and hate sharing things about myself. But I did it! When I was 15 and pregnant and had DD, I was deemed as a failure. When she was diagnosed with Autism, I thought OHNO. When I was going through abuse, I thought is this it? Discovered Mumsnet and I haven't left since. If it wasn't for Mumsnet, I don't think I will be in my position today. Thank you :)

starsintheriver · 09/01/2021 00:05

I'm touch by everyone's responses. I'm very private and don't really say too much about myself. The only thing a small number of colleagues know is that I have a DD and her age- I do get raised eyebrows. But that is to be expected! I shared my post to really thank Mumsnet- it was all the advice and support that kept me going. I broke down numerous of times and I'm not perfect- but I had to keep getting up. I had DD that needed me. Really touched this very early morning.

Well done, YOU have done incredibly well for yourself & your DD. You definitely deserve to be very proud of yourself!

It's good to know people are still getting help/advice from MN that helps them to believe in themselves. It's changed so much from the 'old days' and currently feels particularly awful, so it's great to have faith restored.

Keep going from strength to strength 💐

2018SoFarSoGreat · 09/01/2021 00:07
