To ask how the fuck one hoovers the stairs with a Henry??

Got a Henry (or Harry to be precise) for the first time in years.

How the hell do you hoover stairs without ending up in A&E. it's taken me 45 minutes and my body has done things and been in positions I didn't know it could. I'm absolutely exhausted.

Any tips on this? I have two sets of stairs for what it's worth.

One gets a Dyson V11. One will never regret it.

Move to a bungalow!

DressingGownofDoom · 08/01/2021 15:16

Henry is a brilliant hoover but not really suitable for lugging up and down stairs.

DressingGownofDoom · 08/01/2021 15:18

@TheFaithfulBorderBinliner

Henry hates me, I know he'll make it look like an accident but he's been trying to push me down the stairs for years. That's the twist you didn't see coming in the next must see Scandi drama - it was the vacuum cleaner that did it....
I can see this happening in an episode of Death in Paradise!

Hold Henry by the handle in one hand or rest in stairs and hoover with other with the tube! Tbf it never takes me long as I don’t it quite often so less work each time 😃

ponygirlcurtis · 08/01/2021 15:54

I normally do the top half of the stairs from the top and the bottom half from the bottom. Last week I attempted to do a couple of extra stairs down only to look up to see Henry plunging down the stairs towards my head. Shock Luckily managed to get my arm up but have a cracking bruise on my wrist. Sad

Will be buying a silicon brush to do the stairs.

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 15:55

I carry it with me and hoover as I go.

AdditionalCharacter · 08/01/2021 15:58

Remove the middle pipe so you're left with just the stumpy bit, work your way from the bottom up, do a few at a time, one hand holds Harry, the other hoovers.

GypsyLee · 08/01/2021 16:00

We just do ours in one go with it at the top or bottom.
Our stairs are massive too with a square bit and more coming off that.
Has the cable got shorter recently?

Whatthedoodle · 08/01/2021 16:13

I swapped my Henry for shark. I found the Henry very dramatic, one small tug and he would go rolling everywhere. There is no need. He’d get stuck by our couch all the time too, I usually love hoovering but it just frustrated the life out of me.
The passion for hoovering is back with my shark though.

Givemeabreak88 · 08/01/2021 16:35

I hated my Henry as well, I don’t actually have it anymore as I got a dyson now however I do kind of miss it, it had a good suction and was better on hard floors than the dyson (dyson seems to be better on carpets) but I hated how massive and bulky and ugly Henry is

User0ne · 08/01/2021 16:36

@ohlookout

I hold it by the handle in one hand and vacuum with the other.
This.

Did it for years, it's dead easy. Obviously if you empty it rarely then it will be much heavier and harder to do.

tealandteal · 08/01/2021 16:45

Hoover bottom 3 steps with the soft brush bit, then stand on one step, put Henry (although actually we have a Harry too!) on the next, and then hoover the next one up. Your legs stop Henry from falling. Unplug, plug in upstairs and repeat for next flight of stairs.

truetuesdays · 09/01/2021 01:13

Thanks for all the advice

My past 2 sharks died on me- to be fair it was renovation property so I battered them to shit

If I pull the pole out of the attachment and use that the suction is so bloody strong it pulls the carpet up from the surrounding grip.

I was brutalised after this mornings session.

@tealandteal so how does one hold the Henry whilst making sure you are getting maximum suction/cleaning out of it?? This is sort of what I tried today but couldn't hold him and when he was left to lean against my legs....well.....there is a reason I kept the new puppy shut in a separate room!! Effing dangerous

I think I'm just gonna hire a cleaner to

Those saying hoover halfway up then put the Henry at the top and work down.... Henry fell down the stairs on top of my mum and cracked her head open and she needed it glueing back together at A+E 😂

CherryValanc · 09/01/2021 15:27

Don't understand why anyone needs to bring the Henry part of Henry up the stairs. He's got a very long hose of which a half stretches.

Bet Henry managed to survive undamaged.

I've been trying to find ways to kill mine off. Not too sure I'm willing to get my head glued back to fulfill that ambition.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 09/01/2021 15:35

In my case, get a husband. I fucking hate stupid heavy Henry and his over dramatic toppling over ways, so I only ever use the handheld Dyson. DH, however, is obviously Henry's lord and master, so Henry willingly obeys his every command including behaving nicely when DH hoovers the stairs. Little fucker just acts drunk when I try and use him.

Bluebellbike · 14/01/2021 11:03

My Henry fell downstairs when I was vacuuming the stairs. Smashed the power socket at the bottom to pieces. Not even a scratch on Henry.
