Personal training vs outdoor tennis

AIBU in thinking that it is extremely unfair that elitist personal training is allowed whereas parks have padlocked their tennis courts so children cannot even play their parents and siblings?

I hope Boris is still enjoying his personal training...

Personal training is allowed outside, but I doubt many people are doing it due to having to drag equipment around. I agree it's a bit silly to close tennis courts but they just want people to stay at home and the less there is to do the more they will stay at home use the supermarket as a family outing

Personally I think it's ridiculous that my PT could come and mow my lawn or cut my hedge but can't stand in my garden and watch me do exercises.

So we are doing it online, which isn't ideal.

I agree OP. I now can't play tennis at my local park which is ridiculous because the social distancing is obviously much greater than in a lot of other physical activities. We've been going to large shop which is closed and playing in their car park using the car park lines for the net Grin

It is ridiculous that tennis coaches have to lose their income again, when they can coach from 5m away. And talented youngsters once again cannot even pop to a tennis court for a hit.

Most personal trainers demo stuff from far closer and, missing personal training is not going to interrupt developing a skill.

The personal trainer exemption, with zero logic behind it, does just seem tailor made for BJ.

I quite agree. My DCs have both played tennis for >10 years and it's their main physical exercise outside of school, they could play together on the courts and do so within the lockdown rules or even meet one friend to play but they can't use the courts at the club or the park. I've taken them to the car park to play but I think people would take a dim view of two teenagers doing that.

Just been to my local park where a personal trainer has set up (quite an impressive) little personal training canopy, with a ground sheet, mats, weights etc.

It is at most 1.5 metres X 1.5 metres and he is training a series of his clients in it all day. Meanwhile, 100 m away, 10 local authority courts are locked up.

Just don’t get it.

That's not right.

Neron · 08/01/2021 17:10

It's not right. Nearly everything you can do, to improve your health, has been stopped.
We should be encouraging people to make health improvements, to take the pressure off the NHS.

sleepwhenidie · 09/01/2021 11:39

Ridiculous. Singles tennis should still be allowed and doubles with same household/same household partner.

To pp who doubts pt’a are training clients outdoors, I promise you loads are (as they would be in normal times) and they definitely get closer to clients than I ever have to my tennis opponents during a game!

Similarly don’t understand golf being banned when you are allowed to walk for exercise with one other person! As it’s a game often played by older people it would benefit this demographic hugely in maintaining some level of fitness and mental health.

Apparently health outcomes for hospitalised patients (covid and non covid) from second half of last year were worse because of a general deterioration in conditioning for many as a result of lockdown. Why isn’t this being taken into account!
