I work in theatres attached to icu but we all share the burden, we send staff to them and we share a coffee room. We do intensive procedures on the unit and obviously we bring their patients covid or not to our theatres.

I want to buy some decent tea, coffee and hot chocolate plus salt pepper, sauces etc as we get 2 sachets of maxwell house per person per day (cheers Sodexo) I would buy biscuits but people we hoard them as you don't know when you might get more but tea and coffee is accepted as non hoard able because we all need caffeine

Where can I buy this as catering packs? I need enough tea and coffee for 150 people that isnt Nescafé or maxwell house! Also biros because my staff love pens.

Upper management just cancelled leave til may the least I can do is provide decent coffee, tea, pens and a limited amount of chocolate.

Do you need a Costco membership to go there? Is makro better? Help me people who bulk buy!!

Costco isn't always cheaper than a normal shop. Especially when normal shop has offers on.
Asda has 480 Yorkshire tea bags for a tenner or 420 Tettley ones for a fiver

@JumpLeadsForTwo you can be 🙄 all you like, we all have our own opinions, fully paid staff can chip in £2 pm for tea n biscuits.
@MaelyssQ is an NHS worker and doesn’t want donations.
Lots of other workers kept working, do they get free meals, coffees?

JumpLeadsForTwo · 08/01/2021 13:40

@HerMammy I wasn't commenting on the appropriateness of donations, I was commenting on your ridiculous comparison of NHS staff with other workers who had been furloughed or had reduced pay.

HerMammy · 08/01/2021 13:58

My point is the giving of donations/ freebies when they haven’t suffered financially, we have the highest unemployment ever and we are donating to ppl with full salaries, donations to other charities are available.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 08/01/2021 14:00

Fair enough. I don't happen to agree with donations either but didn't agree with your comparison

LividLovely · 08/01/2021 14:04

I cannot believe that some people are begrudging NHS workers a free instant coffee (that the OP herself is paying for.

Race to the bottom or what.

Good on you, OP.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 08/01/2021 14:53

Is there any reason why you can't go through NHS procurement/supply chain OP? It will be much cheaper than going to to a commercial supplier.

Hahahaha. If only.

Sure they've not had physical paycuts but how many more are working over their contracted hours, staying longer past their shifts to care for patients, it all adds up to getting paid less for the work they're doing.
In the last lockdown our local mosque did a collection for our nearest hospital, their must be similar things happening local to you. I'm not on FB but I'm sure locals would be more than happy to help out.

Agreed. Sports England were given 20 million to give out to charities and three charities I know of, who provide sports for people with disabilities were denied funding (total request was 75k) This would have allowed them to continue to support people with disabilities during lockdown to be able to get out and exercise as they can’t just go on any of these lovely walks or cycles people keep posting on SM about. The letter they sent actually said they weren’t a high enough priority.

They found money to give to a charity that provides free bikes for NHS workers though. The website is full of consultants and registrars proudly showing off their free bike. Not sure how many nurses use bikes to get to work for their night shift.

HerMammy · 08/01/2021 21:05

@MintyMabel
That’s a disgrace, ppl on 6 figure salaries being gifted bikes is disgusting and it’s certainly is not charitable.

Our amazing boss brought a nespresso machine for the floor and someone else donated a tassimo. We bring in our own pods. Best thing ever

Catering not always best value for anything other than basic. Sainsbury’s currently doing Twinnings everyday 100 for £2.49. That’s 2000 teabags for under £50.
10 tubs of green a d blacks hot chocolate £36
1000 cups of illy coffee (20 tins) £140
