If EYFS nursery stays open what about Reception?

DD is 4 and in a school nursery which is staying open because EYFS can - Therefore DD has a place.

The class is mixed with Reception year children as it's a small school.

There is a class What's App group and some of the Reception children parents are claiming their children are eligible for a place because they are still 4 years old.

(All kicked off due to a very strict key worker definition brought in by school today which tbf has dropped some parents right in it).

Just interested to know what people's interpretation of this is and whether they might gain access this way? The group is very small at the mo (and before I get flamed I'm a single parent frontline key worker so need the place!) And I'm not keen on her going if 15 reception children will be joining her (high covid rate area).

No Reception classes are part of primary schools.

I don’t think it matters whether they think they are entitled, the school don’t have to open those eyfs so they are well within their rights to close it.

They are also not magic staff and space, there are so many people who think they are entitled to a space. My children have to go to school, tbh I’d rather they didn’t. The less kids the better.

@StacySoloman

But they are also EYFS - right? Sorry I don't know much about it.

But the EYFS provision isn't shut and isn't going to (I really hipe not anyway!)

Well technically primary schools are closed. Nurseries are open to all, but nurseries in schools can choose whether they open to all, or keyworkers children. In the current situation they are no longer one and the same thing coming under the Umbrella of eyfs.

But the guidance doesn't say nurseries - it says EYFS is open.

It's been clarified today as including "pre-reception provision on school sites" being allowed to stay open.

So not Reception provision. But there might be lots of key worker not vulnerable children in school. It may be necessary for nursery children to be with Reception and KS1 children.

On Monday it was stated as nursery classes attached to schools in areas of high transmission to close (I'm paraphrasing) So I guess it depends where you live.

Ok cool thanks for clarifying. I'll let them fight their corner as it's not really any of my business!

And yes - reception kids will def be with them but it won't be a full house by the sounds of it which is good.
