To ask you for help buying a new car ?

I need to buy a new car that I can transport my dad in. The passenger seat needs to be high up as he can't manage a lower seat. I will need to fit a wheelchair in either the boot or back seats.

This will be my full time car so I also want it to be funky, pretty and practical for London.

Any ideas please?

Also think about height of the boot and how heavy the chair is to lift in and out

Have a look which cars are usually available on the car mobility schemes as they would usually offer these kind of features

Nissan X-Trail

@RealisticSketch please excuse my ignorance. Where would I find this information?

The Nissan scores really badly ! Do you have any personal experience of this ?

Yep, I used to work for the brand. I know someone who also worked there and actually bought one and I have a family member who had one.

Unless you're looking for a German engine, overly high tech car then I can't see an issue with it.

Great size, good spec and engine options and does the job.

Check on here regarding the motability...

Do his wheels come off the chair?

If so it should make it much lighter to lift

We have a Volvo XC90 that fits my wheelchair and our Labrador in the boot with the divider between them

The seats are nice and high so I don't have to sit down or get up iyswim from them --- which to me is very important but others do not notice or think about

The Volvo XC60 is a smaller version as you don't mention a dog for the boot space

I'm not sure myself. I only know if it because a friend and a neighbour have both bought cars on the mobility scheme (not sure if exact correct title) and as a disabled person this is not uncommon. So I would Google disability car mobility scheme and see where it gets you. Sorry I can't be more specific, it is only secondary knowledge for me.

I think a good idea is to see what the BEST height is, for his ease of getting in and out in your own car atm

Measure from the ground to the top of the seat

Then you can ask any car dealer to measure the range on the height of the seat

If you get the height correct it will make a huge difference to him (well it does for me anyway) SmileSmileSmile

Also think about how easy it is for him to swing his legs round once he is sitting

Also how wide the door opens to fit the chair next to the car for the transfer
