I start a new job on Monday. But I don't know where or what time. When do I begin to panic?

I can't get hold of my new manager (last spoke to her before Christmas). I'm worried she's off due to
Covid.
They were unsure where I would be because covid makes things complicated.
I can email the area manager but I don't want to disrespect my new manager too soon and go over her head too soon.

When do I start to worry?

I start Monday as a community staff nurse.

Have you emailed or telephoned your manager? They may still be able to give you an answer.

Yes both.

Her phone is switched off.

Can you phone the office? Or if you can't get that number, call the general district nurse contact number for patients and ask them to contact the office on your behalf and get someone to call you back.

"The office" has been divided up so it isn't that simple now.

I have the email details for my area manager and that's about it Confused

Ok I've just tracked down a telephone number which is a landline on the bottom of the area managers email.

Do I do that already? I'm worried about going above my managers head too soon.

Do you have HR contact details from the formal job offer? Give them a call if so and ask if the manager is off sick or not. If not send them another email.

I'd definitely email the area manager and just say you tried contacting your manager but cant get in touch and thought it may be possible she is ill or shielding and are still needing details of start time and location for Monday. That really isnt a bad thing to do, it shows initiative on your part and your willingness to start the job.

i agree about not appearing to go over the manager's head too soon. If the manager has been off for a long period over Christmas she might be wading through emails still. I'd ring the team landline and ask the admin/duty person for the manager's availability. They can let you know if she's absent.

This.

Today is the right day to start chasing up - if you leave it to Thurs/Fri it looks like you are being slack and there might be no-one available and no time to track anyone down. Bite the bullet - she knows you are supposed to start on monday so she should have prioritised speaking to you already.

Ok thanks I will get on it.
