Aibu to spend that much on skincare? Obagi? Tretinoin?

So I don't have much money going spare but my skin is really getting me down. I have acne scarring or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation rather. I've suffered since my teens never had clear skin but I am at an age where I want to start doing something about it. I have looked into obagi and tretinoin but it's really really expensive. I wouldn't be putting myself out but I can imagine there are better things I could spend the money on.

Aibu to consider spending a small fortune to make me feel better about myself? I don't ever spend money on myself unless absolutely necessary usually putting the kids and house first. Am I selfish considering this?

Also has anyone used either and noticed good results?

I got obagi as a tester and it broke me out even more. I use Cereave and dermalogica plus a hyaluronic serum for mine and I have similar skin to you. I have some acne scarring and I’ve had microneedling and microdermabrasion it works in my skin

Paula's Choice and The Ordinary are both great and not super expensive. If you've got some money to spend I would suggest that you see a reputable dermatologist or facialist who can tailor some recommendations to you.

I will be definitely seeing a dermatologist but with everything closed at the moment I was hoping to start something at home at least before I get to see the dermatologist. I have tried the ordinary but didn't feel it done much for me at all I'll also have a look at Paula's choice thank you

I use skin and me for anti ageing. I’ve really noticed a difference. It’s not overly expensive.

OP, Dermatica will give you advice but remember it isn't an overnight fix and is likely to take months before you see an improvement but persevere as it is worth it. Start off using it twice a week at most then slowly build up to more frequent use. Keep the rest of your skincare routine really simple with no other active ingredients until your skin is used to it. A simple cleanser, moisturiser and SPF50 from brands like Cerave, La Roche Posay, Vichy etc should be enough.

If you have acne scarring you should see a dermatologist. The products you’re considering are pretty hardcore and it would be best to get a specialist to explain how to use them correctly and educate generally on your skin. They might look at your skin and say they are not appropriate for you. Private dermatologists are open and most will do video consultations with you if needed.
