Job dilemma

I'll start by saying I've been at my current company for several years, I enjoy it and have no plans to leave.

I've been approached on LinkedIn by another company within our industry; one of my past managers has recommended me for a role they are recruiting for and they are keen to speak to me. I spoke briefly to their HR person today and they want me to speak to the head of the department later in the week.

It's worth noting I was in the same situation about 3 years ago (same company I'm at now but the hiring company was different). I got a job offer and was able to use this to secure a pay rise in order to stay at my current place. The main reason for not accepting the other role was that the commute was much longer than I wanted to do.

I really don't want to leave my current role, so it would have to be an exceptional offer from this new company to even consider it. I'm also not sure if my current company would offer me another pay rise to stay as they've already done this once in the past for me.

I'm swaying towards cancelling the call with the head of the department as I don't want to waste their time, but then the other half of me is thinking there's no harm in finding out and I'm under no obligation to accept an offer (if they even make one).

For extra info, our industry has not been affected by covid; if anything sales have increased.

Please can you vote as follows?

YABU - it's worth finding out more about the role, even if you're fairly sure you wouldn't accept it.

YANBU - don't waste their time if you aren't seriously considering a move.

Definitely worth finding out more about the role, at the very least you could expand your network and let them know that while you’re not actively looking at the moment you’d be delighted if they would consider you in future?

If you have no intention of accepting a role with them then don't waste their time and your own

This.

Doing this twice with two different companies could seriously damage your name, if it’s a fairly small/niche industry.

This isn't how things work in my job, so I might be talking out of my hat, but it seems to me, if the company are randomly approaching people that haven't applied for a job, then that is their decision and up to them if they think it is a waste of time or not. I'd see that as very different from applying for a job you had no intention of taking.

I would also have thought it was a positive thing for your own "worth" at your present company - be that salary or conditions or whatever - for them to know you have been approached again. It's not like this is happening every month or two. I think 3 years on, you are surely entitled to another salary review ? (Again in my role, it is nationally mandated so I've no experience of negotiating my pay, but that doesn't seem unrealistic to me).

Thanks, these are the exactly sort of things I am thinking on both sides.

Just bumping for a few more answers as I want to make a decision and let them know today.
