Battery on the radiator?

My housemate left an amazon package that had a lamp in it (with a battery compartment - there's a hazard battery picture on the front of the box) on top of a radiator (wooden cover thing) that was going full blast for the best part of 12 hours (it's v cold here and heating was prob set to about 25 degrees)

Is it safe to use? The lamp was warm when I took it out of the packaging. I can't tell from a google so thought I'd ask.

I can't see any harm would come to it. Just let it cool down first if you're worried.

It should be safe but the chances are that your idiot housemate has reduced the battery life by quite a way!

Check the battery and compartment for leaks, cracks etc.

Tell your housemate they owe you a new battery, you will order it, they can pay you.

Used be a trick to revive old batteries ... pop them on a rad for a bit ...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/01/2021 10:56

It does, but the mechanism for revival is what reuces the lifespan in a new battery. It warms up and moves the battery fluid - which can evaporate. That's what gives you a bit more life... but will shorten the lifespan of a new battery!

Yep. We used to put them on top of the fireplace as children to get more life out if them for our walkmans

It was the 1970s ... It was Grin

My Panasonic brick had to make do with all the sad batteries being warmed and eked out for as long as possible!
