Posting for traffic, sorry!

My husband has been quite bad with a cough...3 negative covid tests though. It's a dry, tickly cough, rather than productive, but it's constant and quite severe. He is better at night surprisingly.

He's now had it a few months and it has got worse, if anything, so I was finally able to convince him to go to the dr.
The dr. rightly didn't prescribe antibiotics as he's had no fever, etc, and instead sent him for an x-ray last week.

Tonight around 8pm he had a phone call from the dr. to say there were changes on his lungs (unclear areas?).
The doctor then asked him to get bloods for his kidneys and he also said the hospital would be calling him to arrange a CT scan to see what's going on asap.

Can anyone tell me why they've asked for blood tests for his kidneys if it's his lungs that are showing changes/white areas on an x-ray?

Is there something that would affect both?

I know this would just be speculation and guesses but I feel like I need to be aware of as many possible answers as I can.

The dr. also said that despite the negative tests it may be that he's had covid already....I'm assuming that's because its known to affect/damage the lungs?

Any ideas greatly appreciated 🙏 🙂 Thanks.

I'm a physio. There's a few things that could possibly be - some quite rare and obscure.

I know its easy for me to say not too stress about it at this stage, but it may well be nothing to worry about.

It sounds like the doctor has a plan, and your husband will be seen soon. In the meantime, try not to panic and keep away from Dr Google.

The kidney markers will be to check they can tolerate the contrast used for the CT scan.

Ok, thanks. That's useful to know.

Unfortunately, I am a massive worrier and it helps me to stay calm knowing what the possibilities are, even if they're awful.
I'd rather that, than have no idea and be blindsided, if that makes sense?

That makes perfect sense, it’s rarely fun to feel like someone else probably has a better idea of the situation when it potentially has a big impact on you and someone you love. Hopefully the scan can be done soon and you can get some answers.

Thanks, just wish I had some clue what they might be thinking.

Tier 4 here and services really stretched. Even though doctor said he must have the bloods asap and definitely this week, the earliest appointment he has been able to get is for Friday.

He's still waiting for the hospital to call regarding the CT scan, but considering they sent my friend home with blood clots on her lungs as they're so busy (she has to go back in daily for fragmin shots and scans/check up, etc), I'm not holding out much hope that he'll be dealt with quickly.

Any ideas or info is appreciated though. 🙂

@DixieFlatline, you were right, the blood test is for the contrasts they'll use in the CT scan. 🙂 Thanks.

Any one else got any ideas what they're looking for with the scan?

Infection, fluid, blood clot, tumours, there's a lot of options.

Good luck (I've been through this a few times for blood clots / PE and infection).

@DixieFlatline

Just to say, even before Covid a pulmonary embolism is not always an inpatient treatment problem. Many patients with PE do not stay in hospital.

I’m well aware, I think you meant to tag the OP Smile

The straight answer is they want to investigate further to get a more detailed look.
The X ray showed something wrong and they need to look closer.

Does he smoke/ has he ever smoked?

Many diagnoses are possible Covid damage, fibrosing alveolitis, atypical pneumonias

Oh goodness yes sorry @DixieFlatline

@Hurtandupset2 I had meant to tag you!
