Fever but almost certainly a UTI? Isolate or ring 111?

Posting for traffic .

Self catheterise due to long term illness . I am 99% convinced I have a UTI - cloudy blood stained wee, back pain, shivering with fever and pain on peeing . Recognise it as a UTI as have had dozens and dozens before sadly .

Local OOH won’t allow anyone in with a fever as far as I know just in case, and I haven’t got anyone who can drive me/don’t drive myself so would have to chance using a taxi to get checked out .

Would you try to self manage tonight (I have cranberry sachets, and paracetomal/ codydramol) or would you ring 111? Have a GP appt on phone at 8.30am anyway, probably won’t be. a huge difference between getting amoxicillin before bed tonight and tomorrow morning? I don’t imagine they’d be willing to drop off meds tonight either !!

I'd say speak to 111 this evening (not tomorrow!) - you could deteriorate significantly in the meantime. Hope you feel better very soon. Thanks

Look this is what 111 is for. You have every right and need to call them.

I’ve rung 111 ... 90 minute queue for call to be answered !! Hopefully get answered soon . Probably better to be in that queue now than realise I really have to ring later and have to wait even longer .

Treating me for a UTI but also have to isolate in the unlikely event it’s covid . Covid hub doctor said it’s highly highly unlikely as haven’t been near anywhere busy since beginning of Dec . Only contact is with practice nurse last week and my 82 y/o nan !!!

Can’t get meds for UTI tonight though - aside from self isolating - as too complex to treat without talking to a GP that knows me . Doctor said not at all comfortable to prescribe strong antibiotics over the phone (I’m allergic to the usual ones) . Thankfully my own GP is ringing tomorrow anyway !

while you're holding, try the online service?

sorry, got distracted & cross posted with your update, hope that you feel better soon.

Hope GP rings you early and you can get started on antibiotics that suit you. I also have complex medical stuff but for most flare ups a quick phone call sorts things out as they know me and my needs. Best of luck

Been there and I so feel for you, these UTIs are awful.

I am now on long term nitrofurantoin at a low dose, which seems to have controlled the bugs from returning.

Will be thinking of you tonight and I so hope you get the meds you need soon. X

Thank you, I hope so . Had a cystoscopy 2019 and told it was very abnormal, need yearly checks - but have never seen a doctor since .

Junior doc rang before Christmas and said urology are discharging me as I can catheterise - on a life long basis - it’s not life threatening - no other treatment or support or diagnosis .

Haven’t catheterised for weeks and weeks, first time I do it I land up with a UTI Hmm .

Hopefully GP rings quickly tomorrow !

Oh bless you, I hope you can get things sorted quickly. DD has a long term condition which requires self catheterisation but she just can’t do it and gets an infection every time.

It’s heart breaking and I hate seeing her traipse in to A&E just to be catheterised Sad
