Veneer came off help

Hi, so as I was biting in to a double decker yesterday and (the last of the chocolates no one else really likes ) my front veneer came off, I have had veneers for over 20 years now and this first time it came off! I panicked and then googled what to do as we in lockdown and luckily had toofy pegs at home, now have used it and cemented veneer back on and it seems to have stuck really well! How long do you think I can get away without going to dentist? Have a bit of a phobia. Will it stay on for a while, has anyone else used and found didn't need to go to dentist?

Not a dentist but can’t imagine that’s a permanent fix

ErickBroch · 04/01/2021 12:48

You should book with a dentist and they can fix it again. Can't imagine it would be painful

I had a veneer off during the pandemic. Dentist reattached it but it has since come off againSad. The method used to reattach it was not the dentist's first choice ( had to use different non aerosol methods-this was explained to me). I am thinking of waiting till better methods can be used.

Thanks for replys, and @yoyo1234 how is the veneer staying on at the moment? I suppose I've been expecting it as my veneers are getting old now, at the moment the toofy peg cement seems like it's really holding it on, can't even budge it, which is good. I will phone the dentist anyways to see what they can do if anything as it's not painful.

No, you need to see your dentist.

yoyo1234 · 04/01/2021 13:24

Right now it is not on ( worry if it is reattached not using optimum method and comes off I may swallow it- it was expensive). Also not sure availability of my dentist right now.

Book an appointment with a dentist. Delaying it will only make it worst.

par05 · 04/01/2021 15:46

@yoyo1234 that's my worry don't want it getting lost, but as it's on the front tooth look awful without it as have very goofy teeth if that make sense. Am off work tomorrow so will ring dentist hoping it stays on for the time being.

Ring your dentist but you may find they can't/won't do anything as its not actually an emergency. I had one come off during lockdown and had to pay privately to have it reattached (mine are NHS).

par05 · 05/01/2021 13:03

So rang my dentist and as @frouby mentioned not an emergency, rang a private dentist and they are not taking on new patients yet so now am stumped as what to do.
Had a dream last night that my venner came off while I was at work and couldn't put it back in, then it cracked and I had no glue, and then my tooth went purple and started bleeding.
Mentioned to my friend my dream, and she asked if I had, had cheese last night and I did! Never knew cheese gave nightmares 🥴

On the positive side the cement is still solid. Have just ordered a stronger glue/cement from amazon just incase I can't get to see a dentist.

Hi so the veneer came off again a week after, so toofypegs lasted quite well I think, but I have ordered another supposedly stronger glue/cement from amazon and that is holding well at the minute, hoping it lasts a bit until I can get to see a dentist.

Quick update veneer has stayed in with the new ionmer glass cement, that I have used 2 weeks now.
