Eldest DD11 almost 12 having random depressed moments.

My DD11 has been having spasms of crying, anger and sadness.

DD11 was always a cheerful girl, (except for always being a bit of a liar and very good at emotionally manipulating me) always bright and creative, never had any internet restrictions, has many friends, yet now she bursts into tears at the mention of anything nice!

I don't know what do to help her, she plays Minecraft and scary Roblox games with her online friends she met during lockdown every night, she talks to me about it openly, too.

Please give me suggestions, because I might have to take her to the doctors or something if this keeps happening.ConfusedConfused

(Note, I'm sure lockdown has something to do with this)

could be puberty and hormonal with a mix of lockdown

Occasional sadness and feeling down is a natural emotion I really don't think she needs to go to the doctors. It's a tough age, it's been a tough year. Rather than trying to cheer her up, support her and listen if she wants to chat.

Inside Out (the Disney movie) touches on natural feelings of sadness really really well. Maybe have a movie night with her and watch this?

I think this is almost par for the course at such a difficult, age. Lockdown and the social media doomscrolling (if applicable) will only add to it.

It's good to have an open dialogue but just because she is telling you some things, don't be fooled into thinking she is telling you everything. You might need to gently probe!

It doesn't sound like the doctor is required yet though.

Sounds hormonal to me.

UghNotThisAgain36 · 04/01/2021 11:16

Sounds like a puberty thing to me. My DD (just 12) is normally a very balanced kid who has coped surprisingly well with lockdown and will talk to me about anything. She has short flashes, seemingly unprovoked, of crying/emotional outbursts with the occasional Kevin The Teenager hatred of life thrown in there.

Watching Inside Out is a great suggestion! Mine also likes chocolate.

Hello
I’ve made an account just to comment this
Please give her internet restrictions
As someone who was groomed online and a porn addict from 11 years old I know how dangerous these online games and chat rooms are
Please please please don’t let her on her phone at night on her own
My mum had no idea
It’s better to be more strict and unpopular with you child then you child be abused online

Hi Sylveon

Please forgive my question but just wondering how your daughter is now and basically how things went? My daughter (15) has what she describes as "moments" where she feels sad and crys and doesn't know why.

I am hoping it is just hormonal as others suggested to you.

Thanks
