I'm in work at 7.30. Ive been diagnosed with a very severe chest infection, not covid as I've been tested 3 x and they're all negative. I've been on steroids for a week and have another 3 days to go. I'm coughing a lot still

I'm in a WhatsApp group with one of the people I work with from a hobby outside worm. And they keep asking if I'm in. I don't feel well enough to go to work but the bitching and talking shit about me will be rife if I don't go in today.
My boss will ring at least 3 times, my friend on the WhatsApp will message constantly about why I'm not there. Works absence team will call later.
I've been signed off for 2 weeks but I just don't think the hassle is worth it.
