So I'm looking into different options. I know it's a typical New Years resolution to eat better, loose weight etc.. but I do really need to do it this time.
My partner and I are TTC.. I've not had any confirmed fertility issues but I am a little overweight, and I'd like to fry to do what I can to help our chances 😀

So I'm looking into either slimming world or slim fast (shake based) I've done slimming world before, liked it - but it's so easy in my opinion to stray off track.. but that could be my crappy willpower 🤣🤦‍♀️

I'm swaying more towards slim fast shake diet. I guess I'm just wondering if herbalife / juice plus / slim fast has worked for anybody before? Before I go out and blow a load of money on shakes 😅

I’ve done all the shake diets, I lost so much weight for my wedding day which I was pleased about but I was barely eating! Have a look at team rh on Facebook, they do slate SW but I think SW is ok and works.

Givemeabreak88 · 04/01/2021 00:56

9 stone in 9 months CookPassBabtridge ? That’s amazing!

Lou98 · 04/01/2021 01:25

I lost 2 stone with the Juice Plus diet and have maintained it for over a year. If you have a rep for it they'll add you to a support group on Facebook too (if you want) and it's very motivating. As with any of them it's a lifestyle change rather than a "quick fix". I liked juice plus in particular because in addition to the shakes you can still eat meals and snacks so never leaves you hungry, it just encourages making meals from scratch and cutting out processed foods and healthy snacks. The Facebook group is full of recipes - most of which are extremely easy and quick to make

Lou98 · 04/01/2021 01:29

Meant to say the reason I've stopped juice plus now is because I'm pregnant (although they are safe for pregnancy) but I'll definitely be doing it again after the baby is born. It's the only "diet" I've ever maintained my weight on (after losing what I needed to) for so long

Standrewsschool · 04/01/2021 01:30

I’ve known three people do shake based diets. They all lost weight. They’ve all put the weight back on fairly quickly. It’s a short-term quick fix.

FlappingFanny · 04/01/2021 01:30

@Darklylookingdeeply

I have done Slimfast and it works. Unfortunately, not for long. When you go back to eating, you tend to pick up where you left off and I am now heavier than I was before. I'm going to start it next week again though; it's great if you want a quick result.
I also had success on slimming world and put it all back on again... now on it again and enjoying it only this time when I hit my goal I'm not going to gorge on share bags of Doritos every night

Don't do shakes. Definitely don't do MLM shakes.

Most shakes are full of sugar. Just eat less and move more. Start with small changes, gradually adding more changes until you've changed your habits.

MyFitnessPal is a good start.

And FGS, don't blindly follow a 1200 cal diet: tailor your calories to your body and activity level. Eat more to weigh less. When I am active I can easily eat 2000-2400 cals and lose weight (I'm tall).

Just walk away from the shakes.

NHS are starting to introduce them to reverse type 2 diabetes

This is the one I"be done. 4 stone off since March and my diabetes and high blood pressure are now reversed and in remission.

Fundays12 · 04/01/2021 09:30

I have used slimming world and shakes too try loose weight. Slimming world was very successful and I lost it all and felt healthy. I then felt pregnant with ds2 and ds3 in quick succession so put weight on but never went back too my highest weight.

I tried shakes and omg those things are awful. I had terrible stomach pains, felt ill and looked grey. I lost no weight at all despite sticking too the “plan” religiously.

Too loose the post Christmas pounds I have cut out booze and gone back too slimming world principles (lots of veg, fruit etc) plus walking miles.

Randomrebel · 04/01/2021 09:31

I consulted a naturopath when trying to conceive as took ages to get pregnant at all then lost two babies also my thyroid levels were low which can affect fertility and pregnancies going to full term.
I felt dreadful on the naturopathic diet (basically a blood group diet no gluten, sugar etc) just veg and meat. In the first couple of days but after that the weight fell off me, my energy levels went through the roof etc. I lost a lot of weight and got pregnant but kept in touch with my GP and had to go onto levothyroxine as my levels hadn’t improved enough.

HazelBite · 04/01/2021 09:42

Over a year I lost about 2.5 stone replacing breakfast and lunch with Slimfast but having a calorie counted dinner in the evening, it was slow but the weight stayed off.
When I had to stop exercising due to a knee replacement I did 5:2 so replacing meals for 2 days with shakes, it stopped me putting on weight, as I was so inactive.
It very much depends how you want to lose weight if you replace everything you will lose fast but it won't be sustainable, I would advise against not having any "proper" food for months on end it gets too much and you are likely to binge a bit when you stop.
Good luck!

Woewoewoejoy · 04/01/2021 09:49

Don't do it OP just eat less move more. My friend sent me some workout videos after she lost weight and they were walk at home ones. My joints flare up so anything too aggressive hurts them. I have lost 4 kilos in the last 2 weeks with cutting out the crap and switching to sweetener not sugar. Whole milk to semi skimmed and doing 30 minutes to one hour a day 5 or 6 days a week. youtube.com/c/LeslieSansonesWalkatHome

My friend and I are really enjoying it. I feel like my joints are getting used to it so I'm going to attempt a light Zumba soon and mix it up a bit. She also does a jogging video. Did that yesterday and it was great

Magissa · 04/01/2021 10:05

Honestly OP I have tried every diet. My turning point ten years ago was Cambridge though I think they are called something else now. I lost three stone in three months. Yes a quick fix but through being in ketosis and reading books by Rob Wolf,Mark Sissons and others I learned a lot about my body. In the last ten years I have mostly been low carb. There are times when I have gone off track but my weight is more consistent these days than it was in my life pre low carb when I yo yo'd.
These days I do Intermittent fasting which basically means I don't eat after 6pm and I don't eat before 10am.Combined with a mostly relaxed low carb diet this works for me. But yes initially Shakes got me to the start of a healthier lifestyle! There is an app called Second Nature, recommended by nhs that is so helpful in changing your habits and getting you into a healthier habits.
These days if I was going to do shakes I would choose Fast800 as they have more natural ingredients and are sweetened with Stevia rather than Sucralose or saccharin though my DH started using Huel as a lunch replacement (more for convenience at work but also to stop himself buying a meal deal every day!) He has lost about ten pounds in six months, obviously not loads but it just shows what a difference one meal replacement a day makes.

Offskki · 04/01/2021 18:50

Detox is basically cutting sugar, dairy, wheat and gluten, alcohol and caffeine out.

But what are the toxins that you are getting rid of @Hortuslover ?

Norah8 · 04/01/2021 18:51

Yes I lost 3 stone on celebrity slim ( dreadful name)
It was 2 shakes and low carbs and 1 meal
Easy peasy and rh shakes were nice

acatcalledjohn · 04/01/2021 19:32

This should be the guide people follow.

To ask if you've ever had success using a shake based diet..?
Hortuslover · 04/01/2021 21:14

@offskki I don’t actually know Grin but I do know that I felt better, in fact loads better when I cut those things out.

Offskki · 06/01/2021 14:30

Sorry for the delay @Hortuslover, I'm glad this worked so well for you, even if there are no toxins removed Smile

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 06/01/2021 14:53

I did Exante. While it certainly does make you lose weight, I had the shits pretty much constantly which probably accounted for a couple of pounds. To be fair, I wasn’t hungry on the shakes after a couple of days so I suppose you could probably adjust and do it long term if you could cope with the bowel problems. Also I think it cost me about £100 for the month so that was fun.

alex1889 · 06/01/2021 14:55

Slim fast is full of sugar and crap. Could you make your own shakes? With zero sugar protein powder and fresh fruit and veg?

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 06/01/2021 16:10

I lost 3 1/2 stone at the start of 2017 using Slim and Save. I've put some back on and have started again this week - but that's not due to the diet being useless, it's due to me overeating during the various lockdowns!

Do whatever works for you to lose weight - but make sure you have a plan for maintaining the loss, that's the hardest bit!
