I don’t want to send 10yo did to school tomorrow

We’ve been really careful throughout the various lockdowns and in between. We sacrificed all our plans at Christmas and didn’t see relatives. DH and I work outside the home but we are both very careful about distancing and hygiene. With the best will in the world, we can’t expect a primary aged child to do the same. We rely on the other parents at the school and whether they’ve been careful over Christmas. It’s unlikely that they all have. I really don’t want to send dd into school: we’re in tier 4, the virus is rampant and I’ve read enough stories of 30- and 40-somethings being seriously affected.

It seems like madness to send dd into school tomorrow. I’ve never kept her off school for any other reason than illness or a family funeral, but I’m really in two minds over whether to send her in tomorrow. WIBU to keep her off? Looks like a lockdown’s coming anyway.

So I sent her in to school. The PM was telling us to, I didn’t want a fine. And now it’s not safe to send her to school, 24 hours later, and I’ve just taken that risk of bringing the virus into our house by putting her into a classroom of 30 children, some of whom will have mixed over Christmas and not stuck to the rules.

Angry

It is what it is. I feel for the parents whose children are losing SEN provision as a result of this. I feel for the kids with GCSEs and A levels, and the parents who can’t work because they’ve got kids at home (I’m lucky that I can work at home and the kids just get on with their work.)
