Dh and I planned to go on a holiday for our 10 year anniversary later this month. We had it all planned ages ago, and obviously it can’t happen now.
This is only a very small problem in the whole scheme of things, but without going into details, we are both very much in need of a break/distraction.
Can anyone help me with ideas of how I can make this special for DH? We have done a few posh takeaways, which were great, but otherwise I am stumped for ideas. We have 2 young kids, so can’t go anywhere without them. (Not that we can go anywhere anyway!). We are in Tier 4, and anticipating further restrictions by then. TIA.

Could you recreate your first date? Or any special date that really sticks out?
My DH did that for me during lockdown and it was so lovely. We went mini golfing on our first date so he set up a little course in our back garden, was fun and the kids had a go too. Then we went to a mexican restaurant so he put together a build your own fajitas/tacos/burritos station and we had churros for afters (was nowhere open to order from on our anniversary so he cooked which he's not great at but I was so pleased with the effort!) It was lush and the kids loved making their own concoctions. We just chatted with some music on after the kids went to bed, between the kids and work and everything else it was nice to just spend time in each others company. I actually felt so bad at the effort he'd put in as I had dismissed the anniversary all together and thought we would just do something another time Blush

We have had two 40ths, a 90th, a 70th and a 60th to try and celebrate through various lockdowns, plus kids birthdays etc and have tried to mark them all in some way- we had socially distanced bbqs, singing happy birthday through windows from the driveway, afternoon teas in the garden, zoom parties, a Zoom quiz and a virtual wine tasting.
My 40th birthday was in December when we were in the last national lockdown so we were quite restricted but I decorated the house with balloons, banners etc and I found a local bakery to deliver ready made afternoon tea boxes so me, DH and the kids had that just to make the day a bit different.
I would have a think about what you guys like / are into and then try to find a virtual version or recreate an at home version
Some ideas...

  • If you have a largish sized garden and a bigger budget you could hire hire a bell tent and do a nights glamping in the garden combined with a posh takeaway
  • Buy / hire a karaoke machine and have a diy karaoke night
  • Have your own kitchen disco with the kids- hire / buy a disco ball and curate a playlist with some party food
  • do a virtual cook along / cocktail making
  • create a diy cinema experience

Thank you for the ideas... they are great. I really appreciate it. Smile Our children have really enjoyed learning to cook recently, so maybe we could get them to set up a restaurant for us.
