To think that The Alchemist is massively overrated?

I suppose I should have known, bearing in mind all the sleb blurbs but honestly - trite, cod-philosophic garbage or what? So sorry I even spent charity shop money on it.

The alchemist was the first of his books I read and I was 21 and loved it.
Veronica decides to die is excellent as is the Devil and Miss Prym.
I couldn't really get into his other books and quit picking them up

My DH was hilarious when he finished this. He looked at me in disbelief and said something like 'is that it?' but more sweary.
