Cant get off my arse

Been off work since the 21st, had a nice and much needed fortnight off, but now I cant seem to get off my arse and do anything.

I have work due in tomorrow, theres an important project I really need to start working on next week, there are half clean/half dirty halfway clothes all over bathroom and bedroom, hair is greasy, havent had a proper meal in three or four days (just picking at fridge stuff), cant even be bothered to watch a film, just lounging around in pyjamas scrolling on MN and the Guardian. I did manage to binge watch Bridgerton.

Anyone else struggling to let go of "Christmas downtime" and emerge back into the Real World?! Its like the less I do the less I feel energised to do?

Great to read others are being just as slovenly!

I put some makeup on and did my nails and toenails. Gathered up all dishes cups etc and did a dishwasher load. Got together all sad abandoned fridge items and made a multi cheese pasta sauce for later and some potato wedges and garlic mayo for now! Did a quick piece of work and finished off the vodka dregs with a generous bloody Mary. Now about to eat wedges with some Netflix (clearly have earnt it!).

Baby steps eh....!

I feel the same. Still got all my Christmas decorations up, taking them down is first on my to-do list.

CrotchBurn · 03/01/2021 15:36

@Ebhc
I have a friend so lazy she still had a Christmas tree (with no decorations) up until May. In fairness we were students at the time!

I’ve taken down all the Christmas decos (assuming I will find a Santa or angel loitering somewhere later on) and am planning my week ahead (meals, exercise, work plans, calendar etc).

Plussizejumpsuit · 03/01/2021 15:43

Yeah I've done some bits over the last week but not much! I'm feeling a bit run down today so the last thing I need for getting back in it!!

Bouledeneige · 03/01/2021 15:59

Yes I'm feeling the same. But I have actually achieved a few things. I've taken the Christmas decorations down, cleaned up the tree pine needles and folded washing. I will put away the clothes on my bedroom chair and have a bath later. And I've chatted to a friend. Tomorrow I will get back to work.

goteam · 03/01/2021 16:03

Yeah, I've done some laundry today, taken the Christmas decorations down and cooked lunch for the family. That's it though. Haven't been out but mercifully it started raining when I was thinking about it which justified me staying in! I'm just having a pottering weekend which I really need.

My best tips are to have a shower and sit down with a coffee and make a list. Don't be too ambitious today, just aim to tick off 2 items

@Gottalovesummer, that’s my method too and it really helps.

I have some important uni coursework that has to be in in 2 weeks and I just can't get my arse in gear. It's not helped by the fact that it covers material that was taught 100% remotely and I didn't really grasp it at the time and then it was Christmas. I've lost all motivation.

You have my sympathies NeonBella, I struggled with motivation at times when I was at uni and it wasn’t even with the added bleurgh of covid/virtual lectures. Do you have a strategy or tips to try and deal with it? I found that telling myself I’d just do 10 minutes, or just focus on one tiny part of the assignment helped.

It's been a grim old year etc - you won't be the only one.

Have a shower, make a coffee, make a list, do one or two little things.

Don't expect too much - start small.

But do start, else anxiety will kick in.

Dancetherain · 03/01/2021 16:53

I'm the same. I feel so lazy and keep saying I'll do things tomorrow but now tomorrow is the first day back at work!! Not even sure i remember what I do! I've just about managed to keep on top of the laundry pile and make proper food but that is it, I've spent way too much time on the internet and basically just lying on the sofa Blush

OP I’m with you, not felt this low in ages.
Work tomorrow and I’m just dreading it being as crazy as it was all summer. Hoping the staff back from furlough don’t go back on it, I can’t face those long days again
Also got greasy hair, only got dressed an hour ago. Can’t watch anything or read it’s just constant scrolling or lying down
It’s been a much needed break but I’m not ready to go back to work
I’m also a carer for my mum and just think I’m burnt out

@SmudgeButt

Am half way between "I wish" & "me too".

I wish I could really really relax and do nothing and have a proper battery recharge. But I also wish I had put on deodorant after my last shower 2 days ago. And I also wish I didn't have a 3 hour zoom with my family this afternoon.

I have made MiL's breakfast, washed up all the dishes (including those left from last night), put all the napkins, tablecloth, kitchen towels in to wash. Now I want a nap (but I can never nap, not in my playbook) but I have the 3 hour zoom starting in 45 minutes.....

How did your three hour zoom call go? What is on the agenda such that it takes three hours?!
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 04/01/2021 18:38

@CrotchBurn - how did the day go then?
