What was ok about 2020 for you?

I got to go on holiday. Massively lucky. We just got to go to Spain when lockdown eased and things were ok. It was the best 2 weeks ever!

I work for the NHS so have not been furloughed at all and my DH has had to cope with the home schooling which has been a nightmare.

I guess my AIBU is was there any part of 2020 that wasn't awful?

WFH was a blessing due to being on new medication due to a chronic health issue and having the chance to adjust to it. Plus work be om more understanding about half issues in general, as a result of covid.
Lots of walks and learning to socialise without so much alcohol, and discovered new places in my area that I hadn't known before.
Appreciating slower pace of life and simpler local holidays with family and friends.
Reconnecting with people I'd fallen out of touch with due to lack of time, and more time to do classes online such as meditation and yoga.
Spending all day working alongside my two cats 😍

catlovingdoctor · 07/01/2021 22:37

I had a major operation I'd been needing and dreading for a while. It was such a relief to get it done. I also passed a university exam which I'd had to repeat and was stressing me more than I can express.

We also got a lovely new kitten who has brightened up our home lives.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 07/01/2021 22:44

I got my shoulder and hip fixed in physio and started ballet again.
We adopted the best greyhound boy in the world.
I had the mental space to consider self-employment and how I could start that alongside my work until I'm earning enough to quit.
I have wfh for almost a year and don't want to ever go back to commuting.

EvieBoo2 · 07/01/2021 22:49

I loved spending months at home with my 6 year old. I got a new job and so did my OH. I don't enjoy socialising so I loved not having to go out and try to make small talk etc.

EvieBoo2 · 07/01/2021 22:51

@Dipi79

I got sober after over a decade as an alcoholic.
That is brilliant Dipi79, well done.

I returned to work following maternity leave. I’d been trying for five years to have my baby, and my baby is likely to be an only child. Due to coronavirus, my return to work was much more flexible and generous than had it been in non-covid times. I’m fully grateful for the work life balance I have been afforded and the extra time I get with my child.

Holothane · 07/01/2021 22:54

No misties as had them removed so lovely to see the world without them. I’ve not much sight but I treasure what I’ve got.

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 07/01/2021 23:02

Found out I was pregnant at the beginning of March literally days before lockdown started which was a total surprise as DD1 is an IVF baby after we were told we would never conceive naturally! DD2 was a completely natural surprise and was born on my 30th birthday Smile

MrsKoala · 07/01/2021 23:08

We took our oldest son skiing, and it was really special to have time with him doing something fun. We acquired a cat and he’s such a character, a really lovely addition to the house. I got my boobs fixed finally. Fil died - I know that sounds awful, but he’d been suffering terribly with dementia and it was torturous for him and H, so while sad it felt like a relief.

GintyMcGinty · 07/01/2021 23:19

I lost 4 stone and went to Lanzarote and saved £10K

Lovely1a2b3c · 07/01/2021 23:22

We went on some holidays within the UK and as someone with a chronic illness I've felt less alone and less like I'm missing out on life!

yellow25 · 07/01/2021 23:27

My darling second baby was born just days before the first lockdown.

DH lost a lot of work which put an end to the holidays I'd hoped for and some plans for our home, but it also meant I wasn't navigating being a mum of 2 alone. The first few weeks as a family of 4 were so special in a way they could never have been ordinarily.

SingleHandSue · 07/01/2021 23:28

I got to celebrate my 40th birthday the week before lockdown 1. A brilliant night out with my family who all live away, and a spa day with my best friend.

Wanderlust20 · 07/01/2021 23:37

I went travelling in Asia at the start of the year and also got pregnant Smile

Figgyboa · 08/01/2021 05:13

I went on two holidays, OH got his dream job and I got to focus on my fitness and eating better.

MisiSam · 08/01/2021 05:23

Got pregnant and I'm now due a little girl in April, my dh lost his job in finance in lockdown number one, he has been doing more manual/physical work since and is incredibly fit! I'm getting fat and he's getting fit but I'm enjoying the view Grin

Mochatatts · 08/01/2021 06:35

Got to spend lots of time with my OH who normally works 60hr weeks.
Got pregnant and expecting our first daughter in 5weeks.
Weather was great early in lockdown.
Traffic was so much better driving to see/pick up my kids from their dads.
I got to spend more time with my children, finally back to 50/50 during holidays after a year of my ex being difficult.
I kept my job and managed to pay off some debts.
I bought a car we desperately needed outright.
I have been in touch with friends and family by text/messaging more than ever.

RingtheBells · 08/01/2021 06:39

Got loads done in the garden and managed to go away in the caravan a few times. Made full use of my NationalTrust membership.

speakout · 08/01/2021 06:47

I now have a daily yoga practice as part of my morning
My relationship with OH is strong.
DD passed her driving test and got a car.
My business is thriving.

itsme · 08/01/2021 07:09

I married my wonderful husband in October, after rearranging 3 times.
My abusive, alcoholic ex got granted no contact with my dd8.

Treacletoots · 08/01/2021 08:22

I got made redundant from a job I thought I liked and found an even better one with super flexible everything plus a large redundancy payoff to treat the family.

I've been able to spend tons of time with my DH, the dog, and we just managed to move house with moments to spare before lockdown.

I didn't have to do the usual Christmas day hosting of the family ( I'm a Grinch)

All in all, despite a few bad patches on the whole (having to juggle childcare and WFH) 2020 has been fairly OK after all.

I am looking forward to DD being able to cuddle her grandparents though, theyre very close and this has been shit.

yearinyearout · 08/01/2021 08:33

Managed to fit in several uk holidays and the weather was glorious for all of them, which makes a change.

Got furloughed from work in the first lockdown and enjoyed a few months off (not happening this time round though)

Toddlerteaplease · 08/01/2021 08:37

Went to places I'd never have been to otherwise. Had a wonderful time in Cornwall instead of France. I kicked my self for going to the same place in France every year.
Got a coffee machine that's saved me a mint!

malificent7 · 08/01/2021 08:38

Did loads of art, lost weight, took up cycling, found a new Mexican restaraunt in the eat out to help out that does the best Margheritas.
Finished my 3rd year clinical placement without getting COVID.

malificent7 · 08/01/2021 08:40

Oh yes..and dp and I are closer than ever! Also spent lots of time with pets.
More space from difficult relatives...I could go on!
