To Be Worried About Baby Temperature

Sorry I know this is probably the wrong place to post but very anxious and would appreciate as much advice as poss
DS 11 months has since New Year's Eve had a high temperature of between 38-40
Have been giving regular Calpol and ensuring he's not overdressed, lots of water and boob, refusing all food except the odd mouthful of petit filous
I called 111 for advice the first night as I was alarmed his temperature was 40, they said to continue doing what I'm doing and keep an eye on him.
My question is how long is it usual for babies to have a temperature this high thats only slightly coming down with calpol before going back up again?
if relevant he has also not poohed since new years eve morning when he usually has 2 big poohs a day. having wet nappies.
Thanks! x

This could be an ear infection or similar. Poor little thing could be in pain & not expressing it clearly. Time for GP!

JillofTrades · 02/01/2021 10:36

I would take him to the doc asap.

When are you expecting the Covid test results?

In what routine are you giving Ibrupofen alongside calpol?

Rememberallball · 02/01/2021 10:52

One of my twins was like that last year when he was poorly; temperatures twice a day and miserable when it was particularly high but playing when it was just a bit above normal. Turned out he had a urine infection (in his case it caused sepsis because his GP decided he ‘just had a virus’ and didn’t check urine as well as his chest, throat and ears; I would definitely try and get another appointment preferably face to face and he also needs checking for covid as little ones don’t always have the typical symptoms so a significant temperature for a number of days means it needs ruling out.

Please get baby checked to be safe. Sure its nothing but my dd had sepsis last year after a few days of temperatures and screaming only at night. Dr said she just had a virus but we knew something wasn't right and went to a+e, got admitted (not a Corona ward) they gave her fluids down a tube and antibiotics. Better to be safe than sorry c

Can your husband not leave work if you potentially have to take you child to hospital?! Also as PP have said, has your child had a COVID test?

Mooey89 · 02/01/2021 11:48

Take him to the doctors. Hope he feels better soon

OP I'm really sorry but as others have said you have to have a covid test and all of you have to stay home and isolate until results are back. The doctors will bring this up when you call them, and you shouldn't avoid calling them because you are worried about saying you haven't done a test.
If it's been more than five days since the temp started you can't do a test but you do all have to do the full 14 day isolation. I know how hard it is when you are sure baby doesn't have covid but there isn't really a choice on it.

You know your baby best and it’s reassuring that they are playing etc.

However I would still try and see a professional, better to just dot the i’s and cross the t’s.
