New neighbours (rented) moved in above us a few months ago - I believe it is a family with a teenager and younger child. They have been noisier than previous tenants but bearable. Over the last week the teenager seems to have been left at home on their own and has been having numerous friends over, staying up til 3am and later - new year’s eve/day the noise went on til 5am, and it’s still going strong now at 3am. To be fair they are not playing music/it’s just banter but it’s just so loud and there’s a lot of banging/thuds. We have spoken to them twice but nothing has changed and I have now not been able to sleep for two nights in a row. I will be calling the landlord in the morning to complain but would I be unreasonable to report a breach of COVID regs (we’re in tier 4)? Don’t want to cause trouble (we have to live next to them after all) but with 2 young DC I need some sleep!!!

Yeah to be honest pandemic aside if they are there alone making noise all through the night more than one night I would probably report it anyway for that alone. I’m up early for work and have a young baby so my patience would wear thin very quick 😂 the fact it’s a pandemic wouldn’t help their case with me!

You should absolutely report it. You have multiple people coming into a house or block touching bannisters etc. When it comes to the landlord: We had downstairs neighbours move in last year who kept smoking into the lightwell which made our entire bedroom stink of smoke, emailed the landlord politely (as we’d asked downstairs several times who sorted it.

Report but will anything happen ?? I know some one who has reported a house over 100 times.. email and calls...the groups continue to meet up at her neighbours house !!

Thanks @Yummymummy2020. Yes, my patience has definitely worn thin very quickly! They were pretty friendly/apologetic when we spoke so going to give them a firm but friendly warning in the morning that we will report them if they have another party tomorrow night...

Hope the friendly warning was accepted ok and they’ve not given you any problem.

If it persists, treat as you would any noise complaint in addition to to the covid reporting. Once covid is over, you don’t want the noise starting back up.

Here in E London, the council noise patrols and teams etc are all closed down again...hence the parties and some cafes still functioning with groups etc and nothing being down....one cafe near me just frosted out all the windows and has never shut down since march...business as usual...

We need to stop being so nice. Fine the teenager/or the parents. Until there are proper consequences people will carry on as they like. After all there are no downsides.

Yes report it. That's not on.

These hysterical threads about 'reporting' all and sundry for unimaginably horrid offences always make me wonder, nah, shout into paper bag - who the fuck do you report these terrible deeds to?
Who do you think gives a toss?
