...or will it linger in the cupboard like my once cherished bread maker? I'd love to hear your experiences of using one...tell me if I should go for it please! All thoughts will be gratefully received!

Got one last week. Love my halogen oven but finding it's a pain to clean so decided this might be good.
Got the tower one from very about £45.
So far done roast potatoes, parsnips and a cheese toastie. All great.
Kids have done cookie dough which was lovely. Fish fingers delicious and so much quicker.

I used to use it a couple of times a week when I had an old grumpy cooker but since getting a fan oven I realised they're really not giving anything extra.

WhoLettheCatOut · 01/01/2021 22:27

I hated mine and sold it after using twice in 2 years but many friends rave about them. I found it easier to do most things in the oven or on the hob but I have a good multifunction oven so maybe that's why. I thought I'd use it for chips but I never did.

Sparklfairy · 01/01/2021 22:34

I do chops, chicken, bacon, sausages, garlic mushrooms and potato, parsnip and carrot wedges in mine Grin

AlternativePerspective · 01/01/2021 22:43

You can make just as good chips in the oven - peel and cut potatoes, blanch them for three minutes, dry well on kitchen paper, place on baking tray, drizzle with sunflower oil and season. Put them in the oven on the top temp for 30 minutes.

And mine is a temperamental oven. But an air frier, while having its uses doesn’t do anything the average oven/hob doesn’t except take up shitloads of workspace.

Thanks for comments, interesting!

I agree. Its the best purchase I've made. I've had one break on me that I bought when they first started coming on the scene and bought a cheaper one as my first was a tefal. I preferred the tefal that actually spins. But they're all great.
Can make anything in them

Ithinkim · 01/01/2021 22:49

I didn't want one but was given the £250 actifry by MIL

It's brilliant. We do beef stir fry, salmon, prawns, popcorn, delicious chips etc.

Plussizejumpsuit · 01/01/2021 22:55

I live mine and use it pretty much daily. Although I am a huge fan of crispy food! I bought my mum and dad one but it sort of turns stuff and I don't think they use it as much as it more for chips and that type of thing. But I think you can take the turn thing out so it's static.

So I'd say get one that does both or get one with just as basket (I have this type). It's mainly great for doing stuff really quickly that would take a whole for the oven to do. We have a 1 year old good oven. But still air fryer is way quicker.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/01/2021 23:13

Onto my fourth actifry. It’s on our 8am list (if it breaks we go to the shops at 8am the next morning to replace it)

The only other things on this list are the washing machine and the telly.

Thanks for your replies. I can see the advantages but I suppose I am still wondering what it will do that my oven won't?

Your oven will do it all, yes but I find 1. It cooks quicker in the air fry and 2, things go a lot crisper. Things like home made fries ect are a lot better in the air fryer in my opinion
RandomMess · 01/01/2021 23:33

I want one but no storage space and it needs to be healthier and still easy.

PumpkinPieAlibi · 02/01/2021 00:31

We have a Ninja Foodi. It's amazing. It is an air fryer, convection oven, dehydrator, slow cooker, steamer and pressure cooker in one. It heats up so quickly compared to a traditional oven and clean up is much easier.

It does allow for healthier eating also. For example, I make turkey and oat flour meatballs using it and they come out perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inaide without any oil, after just 17 minutes. Also, I crush cornflakes using our Ninja food processor and coat seasoned chicken tenders in egg and then the cornflake crust and cook in the air fryer for 20 mins. Perfectly crispy, tasty 'fried' chicken. No oil.
