And therefore, send them back to to sender with rude words?

Yes, I think they are. I am sure with a bit of digging, one could easily assume someones identity and apply for one in their name. Sometimes the application form is already filled in and all you have to do is sign!

Have to agree with you on this one. I get really annoyed when they arrive on my doorstep since I have to go to the effort of shredding them to avoid identity theft.

No idea how half these companies get my details, let alone why they think I'd want a credit card with a 20% or even 30% interest rate!

SmartArseCoveredinCobwebs · 26/10/2007 12:50

And it's not just a question of shredding the first page to get rid of identity either - the second, third and fourth pages all hold the same info. Makes me so cross.

saadia · 26/10/2007 12:51

totally agree, really gets on my nerves

When DD was 18, her shit of a boyfriend took one out in her name. She didn't find out till after she'd dumped him and the threats rolled in.

When we moved house last year, we informed our CC company (Mint) about the move and they sent our bills to our correct, new address - BUT a few months later sent a batch of credit card cheques to our old address . Thank god for Royal Mail Redirection services. I was livid with the poor woman on the phone.

SueBarooeeooeeooooo · 26/10/2007 13:12

It drives me up the wall because I must get three or four a week and I'm not even employed. And you can't even shred the things without having to open them because of that bloody plastic window.

Have you tried the Mailing Preference list Sue?

Halifax (who hold our joint account) used to pester me about getting my own credit card every time I phoned them, so once I just let them rabbit on and went along with the whole application process. When they got to the 'annual income' question, I replied sweetly: 'about two thousand'. The man at the other end of the line actually spluttered. They have never bothered me since.

ledodgy · 26/10/2007 13:47

God you know what I didn't even think of this I just bin them without shredding. Will start shredding them now.

HairyIrene · 26/10/2007 13:51
