Church wedding or beach wedding

Just curious, a light hearted thread 😂Apparently I am unreasonable for choosing a church wedding over a Beach one

Would you add your own cultural twists to a Church wedding or a beach one?

Who says you are being unreasonable ?

What do you mean by "your own cultural twists" ? Obviously a Church wedding is a service in a religious place, and needs to respect that. It's not 'a performance', but certainly in my Church, ministers are usually very happy to include personal touches.

That said, I presume a wedding on a beach is much more open to people writing their own ceremony, etc.

If you're religious then get married in a church. If you're not religious or doesn't make any sense, and I also find it disrespectful.

Mammyloveswine · 01/01/2021 21:55

I had a church wedding because it was important to us that our Christian faith was part of our wedding!

PenCreed · 01/01/2021 21:59

At least with a Church wedding you don't have to worry about the weather!

We got married in church because faith is important for both of us. We got to add our own personal touches like music and hymns, plus the minister who did the wedding knows me well (DH less so) and made the effort to personalise his talk. If we'd got married somewhere other than a church, the ceremony would probably have looked much the same to be honest.

KindergartenKop · 01/01/2021 22:19

Are you a Christian? Don't get married in a church just cos it's pretty.

Thistimetamorrow · 01/01/2021 22:26

It would depend on why you chose a church wedding. If you are just doing it because it's a pretty church and would look good in the photos then YABU.
If you are of faith then YANBU.

Lucieintheskye · 01/01/2021 22:28

Church- DH and I aren't religious but both come from CofE, traditional families. We wanted a small, traditional church ceremony and went to Ireland to stay on a beach for our honeymoon.

If you want to get married in a church because it's pretty and you feel it's right, do it. If you're vehemently against religion, churches or wooden benches, don't. Lots of people think of a church as the only place they can get married, even if they're atheist. And that's okay.

Many religious teachings suggest God would accept anyone into a church for any reason, and it's non-believers or less religious people who should be welcomed to join, surely?

Although I see in movie/tv beautiful beach weddings, I wouldn’t plan one because you can’t count in weather - be in rain, wind or people walking along the beach photo bombing, whatever.

You can be sure of everything inside the church though (or other indoor venue).

MorganKitten · 03/01/2021 17:27

Neither - Las Vegas!

BackforGood · 03/01/2021 19:31

Plus, of course, there are a whole range of venues that are neither a Church nor a beach.

Are you coming back to the thread @Hurting888 ?

Daisysflowers · 03/01/2021 19:39

Church wedding over a beach wedding every time!

But then I hate the beach anywayGrin

nosswith · 03/01/2021 19:41

If you or your fiancée are religious a church wedding is what you should do in my opinion.

Tehmina23 · 03/01/2021 20:15

Beach wedding somewhere hot

MaskingForIt · 03/01/2021 20:53

I’d focus on the kind of man marriage you want and less on the wedding.

Also, if you’re in England or need to get married under a legalised structure, so you’re unlikely to be getting married literally on a beach anyway.

altiara · 03/01/2021 20:57

YANBU to choose what to do for your own wedding!
If your friends/family want a beach holiday, then they can plan one!

Whammyyammy · 03/01/2021 21:11

Depends where the beach is? Skegness or Malibu?
If it is somewhere warm I'd choose beach...

purplecorkheart · 03/01/2021 21:21

Neither. I am Catholic but non practising. I think I would chose to get married in a City old world style hotel.
