Before Monday I think they will have closed all primary schools

Neu is meeting. I wonder what will happen.

sausageathlete · 02/01/2021 04:45

I think it will happen
We are not tier four yet our cases are 90 per 100k higher than the neighbouring tier 4 area and rising whereas theirs are falling. How can our schools be safe to open ?

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

but your DC will be denied an education

Schools will teach or set work remotely so as long as parents ensure their children engage then there’s no denial of education.

Right and what about when the parents have to work so that the children have a roof over their heads?
RememberSelfCompassion · 02/01/2021 09:36

I would do it at the weekends/day off. Many actual homeschoolers don't work a 9-3 and I doubt for primary there would be a lot of work.

I haven't a clue about childcare though.

knittingaddict · 02/01/2021 09:48

I hope not because I think it will push us into not coping and we are only the grandparents.

There have been no cases of cv in our grandchildren's infants school or the adjacent junior. We will have to collect them from school 2 or 3 times a week while my daughter works. If the school closes we will have to do a minimum of 3 days a week childcare and buy them a laptop. Our daughter is on universal credit with a just above minimum wage part time job and couldn't afford to get one herself. She has no money for a laptop having left an abusive marriage.

I worry about teachers safety, but if they close the schools now I will take myself off to a quiet room and have a little scream/cry. Haven't decided which yet.

knittingaddict · 02/01/2021 09:50

It will be me doing the majority of child care and supervising school work because my husband will be working from home.

Allispretty · 02/01/2021 10:04

There's no way they are closing schools with a days notice can you imagine the chaos of working parents trying to arrange childcare not to mention key workers needing to liaise with schools and provide evidence etc of key worker status...not a chance.

More realistic that there will be a u turn mid week to close schools from Friday

MrJinxyCat · 02/01/2021 10:25

How stupid would it be to send them back knowing they’ll close them Friday, it’s either safe or not safe.
That comes before parents being given notice although yes this decision is coming very late, should have been made when Sage advised it in the first place. It’s like Boris can’t see two steps ahead of himself.

RememberSelfCompassion · 02/01/2021 10:54

I think they're likely to send back then realise its stupid. Mayve a couple of weeks in when rates are still rising.

So Boris will look like hes reacting and has his hands tied rather than preventativeky stepping in. Again.

However all those cbikdren wil lthen have moxed and stirred up another set of contacts who will potentiall yspread it to families etc 🤦‍♀️.

Its crazy. Advised not to see family at Christmas then thrown into a room full of 30 people all day. Nowhere else would that be acceptable currently.

Emmelina · 02/01/2021 10:58

All throughout this, scientists have warned about the effects of inaction and advised the best ways of avoiding catastrophe. Boris always ignores it right to the last moment - he knows best! Until it’s clear even to him that he actually doesn’t and throws an enormous U-turn. But it’s everyone else’s fault when he does, because he didn’t want to lock us down/close schools/get the police involved but You Didn’t Do The Right Thing, now look where we are. Hmm

Well of course it's the right decision but when have you seen the government make a u turn so quickly? They are not going to it will take a week or 2 before they realise and close them

Hello mummies

Any experience with Old Vicarage School in Richmond?I am thinking about sending my daughters but I am concerned about crowded space and difficult place to park in mornings and afternoon, also I read some negative comments of cold attitude towards girls?
Thank you!

Pop over to the Primary Education part of MN - you’ll get responses there.
