Or is kids football and sports in tier 4 ridiculous?

I think I’m going to get flamed by soccer mums but anyway...

My lad plays football and now we are told all under 18 football will continue, even while schools are closed and we are in tier 4??!

Do they not realise this is ridiculous? Regardless of other guidance I know kids whose families do not drive so will be getting lifts to training and matches, parents stood close together shouting their heads off during training and matches, kids coming into close contact and yet more excuses of, well they play football together so can go to each others houses blah blah blah.

This now puts me in the situation of allowing my son to play or being the bad guy, I’m ECV and feel under so much pressure!

I know plenty will tell me “think about the children” but it’s freezing anyway, my daughter cannot attend any of her dancing or drama groups but my son can go and train 3 times a week plus matches but can’t go to school???? WTAF!!!!

We're in tier four and my ds plays football. I'm fine with it. It's outdoors, he needs to be able to do something and see other kids.

nosswith · 01/01/2021 12:21

Illogical when swimming pools are closed, which could have restricted numbers and lanes to maintain distance.

thereinmadnesslies · 01/01/2021 12:22

My DC play hockey and u18 hockey is allowed to continue, albeit with rules to make it safer such as not getting lifts, distancing when playing, a track and trace system, parents reminded to distance when watching, and not handling shared equipment. I think the benefit of doing sport outweights the (small) covid risk.

Sexnotgender · 01/01/2021 12:22

It’s nonsense. I can’t even send my toddler to fucking nursery.

RandomMess · 01/01/2021 12:24

Actually with the new variant it is silly.

People weren't supposed to be lift sharing or spectating though!

satnighttakeaway · 01/01/2021 12:26

Regardless of whether it's right or wrong there is no valid comparison between an outdoor low contact sport and a nursery full of staff and young children in close physical contact.

Why would you expect them to have the same rules Confused

CodenameVillanelle · 01/01/2021 12:27

They are outdoors. It's not the same as swimming or nursery or any other indoor activity.

AndcalloffChristmas · 01/01/2021 12:27

I think kids should be allowed something! And why can’t dance be classified as sport? I knew someone whose kids were doing outdoor dance in Scotland so must be possible.

Sexnotgender · 01/01/2021 12:28

Let me see... essential childcare so I can, you know, do my job. Versus non essential sporting activity. Yup, no comparison at all.

clary · 01/01/2021 12:28

I agree that swimming pools being closed is ridiculous, my pool has been marvellous and with booked long sessions I don't even see anyone apart from in the pool.

I personally would welcome the chance for ds2 to continue footy. He us 17 and p,says for an u18 team and an adult team, obvs the latter us cancelled but I am hoping training and matches all outdoors,, can restart for the u18s. His mental health and fitness are so important. Parents have been SDing at matches all season anyway.

RandomMess · 01/01/2021 12:28

There is contact in football so with this new variant it does need to be reconsidered Sad

hopefulhalf · 01/01/2021 12:29

Are you tier 4? DS's football stopped untill 18th Jan. DD still riding though.

bringle · 01/01/2021 12:29

I don't have a problem with it but primaries aren't open in my tier 4 area. If you are not comfortable with it OP then that's also ok.

alex1889 · 01/01/2021 12:29

Let's just keep kids locked up indoors and ruin their mental and physical health then shall we... Hmm

clary · 01/01/2021 12:29

Sorry for typos. Should clarify, when I say restart, they have stopped training and playing for the Christmas break but should be restarting next week. They aren't tho 😭

bringle · 01/01/2021 12:30

are open that should say

If you are a critical/key worker you should be able to access provision? Otherwise I'm glad that the early years professionals in the nursery are benefiting from their unsafe work place being closed at the moment.

That is the only other option you’re right.
Minky37 · 01/01/2021 12:31

Yes it’s crazy, my DS’ team is insisting the match is still on tomorrow morning. It’s a contact sport too.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/01/2021 12:31

Please please don't take this away from my DD. She is So so mentally fragile. This is all she has except for a fking screen.
Contact during football at primary age is absolutely minimal.
Cannot be compared to anything indoors. Please no.

Puddingypops · 01/01/2021 12:32

It’s all very well saying lift sharing and social distancing in parents should be happening. But let’s all be realistic here it is NOT happening.

I’ve seen it on all matches and training it’s not just our local team, parents just forget and think they are watching England play at the World Cup. This new variant is three times more contagious according to todays news so how can we say this is safe, kids panting and shouting, parents shouting and blooming breathing everywhere hahahahaha

I just hate feeling under pressure, and I hate that school is off but this is on?

OP posts:
Blacktothepink · 01/01/2021 12:33

Well, it’s being transmitted in premiere league clubs between players so it will be transmitted between younger players 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Puddingypops · 01/01/2021 12:34

@herethereandeverywhere lol, I’m not taking anything away am I? You dafty! I’m just venting!

Agree entirely...my ds is 12, school won't be reopening. He can't see friends and family. There's nowhere to go and nothing to do. He spends way too much time on xbox. I'm so grateful he can get out and play football twice a week. Kids have given up so much...not this too, please.
MinesAPintOfTea · 01/01/2021 12:34

It is ridiculous, because it’s effectively crossing bubbles over (unless these teenagers are playing “pass the ball at a distance”)

Sports within school bubbles should absolutely be encouraged. Probably increased. Sport outside school, no.
