To think alcohol doesn’t agree with me anymore

Not a big drinker, usually have a g&t on a Friday, maybe 2 glasses of wine at the weekend.

Recently I’ve noticed that I get a headache every time I have a drink. Every single time. Doesn’t seem to matter what it is or how much. Just feel yucky, lethargic, sleepy and then headachy. It’s putting me off drinking anything at all, which is a shame as I used to enjoy a couple of drinks with DH at the weekend.

I’m in my forties, not overweight or suffering any health concerns, and it seems to have happened quite recently in the last few months.

Anyone else suffering similarly?

Yep, I’m the same Sad I had one gin last night and I had a banging headache before I went to bed. It doesn’t really affect my day to day life at the moment, but back in pre-COVID times, if I was sitting round with a friend in the evening or going out for a meal I just couldn’t match people drink for drink anymore, which made me feel a bit of a let-down. It just makes me so sleepy and headachy I can’t do it. Grrr.

I had 2 glasses of wine and a whiskey, plus lots of softs, over the course of 6 hours. Had night sweats, palpitations and a horrible hangover - lovely start to the year! I'm late 40s, no idea if I'm perimenopausal as I'm on the pill and don't get periods. The alcohol symptoms have been happening over the last 2-3 years, so I guess it could be perimenopause, although I'm not sure how to find out if I'm in it.
I refuse to stop drinking, as I like the taste of wine too much! I usually just have 1 or 2 small glasses early evening, rather than the 1 or 2 bottles of old Hmm

Strangely it's gin and wine that does it for me too. I am much more tolerant of spiced rum and diet coke. I get gastric hangovers, weirdly they started when I got Campylobacter and had terrible abdominal cramps that lasted a few months. Also noteworthly that I hit PM around this time (in my late 30s) too. So perhaps a perfect storm.

I believe that I also meet the criteria to join this club.

Used to love a drink on special occasions. Now, even half a glass of wine seems to ruin it. Sicky, dizzy, headachey.

Bah humbug. I miss G&Ts.

I love a glass of wine. Haven’t been drunk for about 20 years. Hate it. I get merry, then stop.

Ive walked 13 miles today and had 1glass of wine and 2 ports. It was just to finish the bottle if wine.

I love my port and purely medicinal of course😝

My nan lived to 101 and had a glass of port a day since she was 7. Doctors orders as she was underweight and a bit malnourished. Sent her mum to a pub to get it from a wooden keg.

Bless her, had dementia towards the end of life and probably drank more than a glass a day but lived to 101 having gone through hardship, cancer, mini strokes and so much bereavement.

So port is good😍

But definitely stopping wine and beer.

It’s quite depressing as I used to enjoy a couple of drinks. Now it just doesn’t seem worth it to even have one. What a bore! Don't give up so soon! there are plenty of other substances to try 😂
