Ryanair’s new fleet

Ryanair just bought 75 more of Boeing Max 737 aircraft, the ones that fell out of the sky in 2018 and again in 2019 and have been grounded for nearly a couple of years. It will now have a fleet of 210 of them. The US aviation authority has now deemed the Boeing planes safe to fly. You getting on one?

If they are now safe to fly after rigourous testing etc, why wouldn't you? Have you looked up Airbuses track record?

Northernsoullover · 01/01/2021 09:03

My head says what sardine says. My heart says I would NOT enjoy the flight.

Northernsoullover · 01/01/2021 09:03

Oops. Bold fail Hmm.

They are old shitty technology that isn't up to what could be made with modern technology, however they're probably almost as safe as the alternatives. However much rigorous testing you do can't make up for the compromises of the old technology.

However, I'm sure it's safe, just not as safe as it could have been had Boeing built the plane correctly in the first place - the incompetence and corruption in the Boeing certification process is more concerning now.

I wouldn't get on one, but that's because we have to stay home...

Lol. Not really a current issue given
A) tier 4 lockdown don't travel abroad
B) Brexit, can't travel to EU currently
C) Ryan air only flies to Europe.

However
D) when it's all over, they will be packed if it's cheap enough

Another reason to avoid Ryanair!

Yep, it's pretty darned good.

Anyhow no need for the A vs.B debate

..The root cause for this is as sirfredfredgeoerge says, Boeing refused to shell out on a new product to compete with Airbus's very successful A320 family ..and instead tried to limp along by stretching the 73, chucking in a few bodges if that stretching introduced problems. Mix in a strong does of "regulatory capture" and what happened was almost inevitable

Only good news is the new improved, very much tested Max should be as safe as an Airbus..

As for will people fly on them? If your airline of choice is Ryanair then before too long you'll have no option..and on the day you'll probably struggling to recognise if you are headed an aircraft formerly known as the 737 Max...rebranding, etc.

In any event when push come to shove comes to choosing flights most passengers don't care about the airframe, number of engines, etc, they care about the ticket price.
