To raise this as a safeguarding concern?

To be clear I'm not 'raging' or 'fuming' or even complaining 😂 but a bit concerned.
Went to the pharmacy this afternoon to pick up my prescription. I get 7 days citalopram (an antidepressant). I only get 7 days as due to my mental health history I'm considered a high suicide risk. Inconvenient but of course totally understandable.
I changed pharmacy about 2 months ago when my old one shut down. Since then I've been aware theres a duplicate record of me (can cause delays in finding my perscription). Last week they said they'd try and merge them.
So I go today and somehow they've put my prescription through twice on both records. Then when the prescription on one has been made up they've given me 28 days instead of 7. So in total 35 days worth.
The lady handing me the medication noticed the error and just asked me if I wanted to just take them all as it would save me coming back for a while. I was a bit thrown and just said yes and took them.
Now I'm home I'm a bit concerned about it. It seems there was a computer error, plus I get they're really busy right now, but there is a reason why I'm only prescribed 7 at a time.
Dont worry about me, I'm fine having them. But maybe further training is needed? Would you raise this as an issue? (Not complaint)
Thanks

I would, because while you’re fine just now it sounds like it’s not always been the case and may be very risky for someone else in a similar position.

Willow4987 · 31/12/2020 18:39

I would, because even though you’re fine, another person might not be if it happened to them

Averyhungrycaterpillar · 31/12/2020 18:39

Yes, definitely. Like you say, not a complaint but to save this from happening to someone who may do something with the extras.

year5teacher · 31/12/2020 18:41

No, YANBU. It would be too easy for someone in your position who wasn’t okay at all to take them up on that offer and it could end very badly.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 31/12/2020 18:42

Yes please do raise it as the system needs to be adjusted. It’s possible they way it is set that you could go back in 7 days and get another 28 or 35 days worth. Not suggesting you would but it shouldn’t be possible so please do contact them and insist it is changed.

Cabinfever10 · 31/12/2020 18:42

Yes that's a major breach in prescription rules and could result in a suicide. Pharmacist's can be struck off and rightly so

Lemonpiano · 31/12/2020 18:45

Unless you raise it as an actual complaint it will be ignored. (Even then...)

LegoAndLolDolls · 31/12/2020 18:47

I would. It's like for a reason as you say. If you was in a dark place there would be a inquiry if you took the lot.

I hope you are coping ok and continue to do so. Happy new year

ColdemortReturns · 31/12/2020 19:25

Thanks all. Yes, that was my concern that it could happen to someone who isn't doing well. Didn't occur to me the pharmacist could get struck off - suppose raising it now might help that to not to occur in the future too.
How do I do this? Email? Suppose theres no way of making it anonymous?
Was most concerned that the mistake was picked up, yet they still gave them me. Like I said in my OP, think it's a training issue.

If I raise this how do I do it?

Is there an email for the pharmacy on line? If not give the pharmacy a ring and ask for one. Send an email with the facts, as emotionless as possible. If you want you can also put what resolution you would like, I.e. your records corrected so this doesn't happen again and further or refresher training for staff so this doesn't happen to someone else. Your details are protected under gdpr so they shouldn't disclose who made the complaint anyway but you could always add into the email that you don't want to be identified as the complainant. I would also add that you would like acknowledgement of your email within a time frame, which should be part of their procedures anyway but sometimes prompts them without needing to chase or wonder how long until they should get back to you.
