Or would you study at all? Would you go to uni ? Would you consider money as in what salaries might be in the industry or would you follow your passion ?

I don’t know ! It’s a weird own for me.
I earn good money,( enough to to be nearly Mortgage free in London ) I am successful within my industry.
However I feel slightly irrelevant haha
Like when people ask what I do and I tell them compared to my lifestyle they are like oh and it’s not something I will ever be proud to say I do like it doesn’t change the world.

Forensics

jclm · 31/12/2020 19:48

I loved my sociology degree but if I had my time again I would do Arabic. Not sure where this would lead but it would provide awsome travelling opportunities!

Doublechins · 31/12/2020 19:48

I started my midwifery degree in September. Best decision I've ever made!

AcornAutumn · 31/12/2020 19:49

I would do one of those accountancy apprenticeships where you part work and part study.

Sadly, it wasn't even on my list.

Bamboo15 · 31/12/2020 19:50

I’d train as a teacher for the school holidays around child care.

tonsattingforbjudes · 31/12/2020 19:50

Music at SOAS, the only place in the UK to offer courses on World Music. It wasn't available when I went to uni in the 80's! I'm all for a uni course for the love of the subject rather than a career focused degree. Probably why I'm still rather poor! Grin

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 31/12/2020 19:52

@georgiamag1

I didn't go to uni, quit school before A Levels and started an office job in public sector. Decent salary now and most people my grade have degrees etc which have been a waste as they didn't need them to get into this role. If I could go back I think I'd learn a trade
I don't think education is ever a "waste".
2021isgoingtobeasshitas2020 · 31/12/2020 19:56

Psychology and possibly counselling.

youdialwetile · 31/12/2020 19:57

I would train as an air traffic controller. It would be my dream job - love aviation, love rules/algorithms, and love the idea of modeling 3D space.

Wish career advice in schools was better. This wasn't even on my radar 🤣😂 🤣😂

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 31/12/2020 20:01

@SharedLife if finance thing is the main issue stopping you, perhaps look into training as a nursing associate. It is fully funded by many trusts and you can go on to do an 18 month conversion course to become an RN, again, fully funded by some trusts. Or there is a fully funded nurse apprenticeship route. What is available varies in different areas but definitely worth looking into.

DirtyHydrogen · 31/12/2020 20:03

@LakieLady

I'd have done history of art. At 18, I knew I liked some artists and not others, but little more than that.

Now, I look at paintings, especially renaissance paintings, and really wish I understood more about them.

Absolutely this. I did an interesting degree at a good uni which has led to a satisfying career. I would never have considered History of Art at 18 as it seemed way beyond my experience but it's definitely in my retirement/lottery win plans.
SharedLife · 31/12/2020 20:05

@AwaAnBileYerHeid thank you so much for taking the time to post such helpful information Flowers

TabbyStar · 31/12/2020 20:05

Neuroscience. Wasn't a thing when I went to uni (not linked to psychology anyway).

thelegohooverer · 31/12/2020 20:05

@littlealexhorne

I wish I'd done something with firmer employment opportunities at the end of it - my degree is only really worthwhile if I follow it up with postgraduate study, which at least right now is inaccessible for me both financially and location wise.
Me too. And I wish I’d been more focused at getting on a career track, saving and getting myself onto the property ladder.
Jimdandy · 31/12/2020 20:13

I did Law and would still do so (solicitor now, but it’s a useful degree for all fields).

My dream is zoologist or conservation but I’m not good at the sciences

Userzzz · 31/12/2020 20:17

Nursing. Where I live, nurses are very well paid. It would allow me flexible work hours and I would be active and hopefully, be able to help somebody.
I studied business and while I make very good money, I sit at the computer all day and i can’t say I’m passionate about what I do.. also I hate the politics ( although I recognize politics exists in all industries)

Skysblue · 31/12/2020 20:32

I did a degree that leads to jobs with long hours and almost all in London - I now find myself envying people who have degrees where they can find work anywhere in the country and easily get part time hours. My vet and dentist friends can get any hours / location they want it seems.

What I actually wish I’d studied is Creative Writing at UEA as they have produced many fantastic novelists and that dream is now decades old... (I’d probably also have married DH younger instead of being long distance for a decade cos I had to be in London and had kids at a younger more sensible age - oh well.)

If not creative writing then probably engineering as it’s so useful for life, by brother did it and he seems to know everything about everything. Or maybe psychology. Anything except the stupid degree I did.

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 31/12/2020 21:23

Medicine. I would have made a great GP!

Hailtomyteeth · 31/12/2020 21:25

I'd study mindfulness, meditation, bellydance and shamanism. And cooking. I think that would make me happy.

Chimeraforce · 31/12/2020 21:26

Accountancy

Nevertoomanyroasties · 31/12/2020 21:29

Costume design

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/12/2020 21:31

Ohh that is a good one, @Nevertoomanyroasties. I’d love to make the sort of costumes used in things like Bridgerton and The Tudors.

FinallyHere · 31/12/2020 21:35

Did Economics and my (second, European) language so was very lucky to fall into a fully funded conversion MSc in IT, then be sponsored for an MBA so wouldn't change any of that, I absolutely know how lucky I've been

Would love to do psychology if I could do the business / motivation side rather than serial killers

[waves to @SarahBellam, who has got the full set]

Nevertoomanyroasties · 31/12/2020 21:36

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

Ohh that is a good one, *@Nevertoomanyroasties*. I’d love to make the sort of costumes used in things like Bridgerton and The Tudors.
Exactly! I'd love to do period drama costumes, researching the fashions and materials etc.
