Self Harm (trigger warning)

I'm sorry to post in the wrong thread but I'm desperate. I've never fully understood self harm before but suddenly few an overwhelming urge and it's scaring me. I'm having horrid thoughts and urges to do things and I don't Know how best to surprise those feelings? I've just scratched my thighs to the point of pain and Want to do more. Please help, how to stop?

Hey. I self harmed throughout my twenties so I know what it’s like. Self harm is a coping mechanism for emotional difficulties. Self harm is never the problem, it’s a symptom of the problem. You need to talk to someone about what is upsetting or triggering you. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone you don’t know.

I did stop self harming but it came out in different ways... self destructive behaviour, putting myself in risky situations and drinking in excess. I am in therapy now.
