My dd has been asked by school to have a test before returning to school in Jan.
She does not have symptoms.
Can we get a free NHS test? If so, do we have to self isolate?
We're planning on saying she has a cough, and getting a test. Is this really really wrong?

Sounds like you’ve got a pretty reasonable solution @cosmobrown

Fingers crossed it comes back negative.

I have seen so many people testing positive without the main 3 symptoms (either contacts of cases or because they have other symptoms) that I don't think it is morally wrong for people to lie to get a test IF they have good reason to believe they are infected.

But I think it is wrong to place an extra burden on the system like this. By this, I think it is wrong of the school - if they want to impose this, they pay.

Although testing capacity is increased, it does sometimes take longer for tests to come back when it is busy... if unnecessary tests delay someone positive getting their result (which delays contact tracing ) that can lead to further infections.

You've pissed me off. Our state system is not your choice.

Pay for your test.

My son goes to a SEN school. I got a text yesterday saying that as they are special needs they are a priority to return but that we should get him tested before he goes back. I, likeother PPs, have seen on the gov website that you can’t use the free service so I text back to the school to ask if they will pay for it. The private test has said that it can’t guarantee results in time. I have already had to buy a test for myself as I didn’t have the “right symptoms” for a free test just more flu like symptoms but as I work in adult education didn’t want to put anyone at risk - that came back positive but took over a week to come back. Another £120 down and no test result in time would be a real battering. Waiting for the schools response.... I think the government need to change the tack on this - they are putting a lot of pressure on schools without the back up systems to help them out properly.

Not using a state school SAVES the state money..

If the GOVT is demanding ALL children are tested, the GOVT needs to organise the testing for ALL children.

As it is, our non state school IS paying for the testing, which means we are, but it'll just be added into part of the coming years fees in some way. We're fine with that, but parents of non state school children shouldn't have to, any more than state school parents.
