As title says...I need some films/tv shows that will make me feel better and take my mind off it. Any suggestions please?

You can rent Sliding Doors on Amazon Video. The main character goes through a similar thing and gets through it, sort of. I won't spoil it. Or you can laugh at Gwyneth's awful acting and even worse late 90s haircut! (Yes, I attempted it and it looked like shit so I'm bitter.)

When I was going through a bad time, New Girl got me through some terrible days. The main character is very annoying but it cheered me up.

Oh, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix is another one if you want cheer up shows. It shows the character overcoming a traumatic event, so it's a good one for when you're having a bad time.

When I was in your position, I binge watched Wentworth and loved it. It really helped get me through it.

Desperate housewives got me through xxx

BenoneBeauty · 28/12/2020 21:40

Oh Op, what a shitty time for you. Agree with a lot on this thread - good TV series that you can get lost in are
Schitt's Creek
Orange is the New Black
The Queen's Gambit
Desperate Housewives
Suits
Ozark
The Handmaids Tale
Offspring

Good movies (not romantic)
Birdbox
Invisible Man
A Quiet Place
Judy

SantasAnus · 28/12/2020 21:53

Real housewives of Beverly hills or New York, or New Jersey.

Selling sunset

Both bingeworthy and pure escapism .

2020iscancelled · 28/12/2020 21:57

Orange is the new black is fantastic as all the men in it are absolute tosspots so you can openly hate on them as much as you like and all of the women have brilliant character development, it’s truly funny in places but very deep in others.

If lesbian prison black comedy isn’t your thing then I really liked Little Fires Everywhere - which is on Amazon Prime. The Morning Show on Apple TV.

And my absolute favourite when I’m having a very shitty time is the BBC adaption series of Pride and Prejudice. It’s possibly on Netflix. It’s about 10
Hours long and it’s glorious.

I’m sorry you’re going through it - I’ve been there too. Karmas a bitch - focus on you and leave the arseholes too it.

The best revenge is living well.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/12/2020 22:01

Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock.

PrincessNutNutRoast · 28/12/2020 22:02

She Devil with Roseanne Barr.

pepsicolagirl · 28/12/2020 22:08

Oh love. I'm so sorry. What a wanker.

Sliding doors
The other woman
Marvellous Mrs maisel
Eat pray love
Legally blonde
Oitnb

Yokey · 28/12/2020 22:10

Another vote for orange is the new black if you haven't seen it.

Sorry you're going through it. If you're imagining they're going to be super happy whilst you're alone, remember that forbidden love is almost always more exciting than it seems. They're probably headed for disappointment. Not that that should matter to you in the long run because you're better off without the rat regardless Flowers

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 28/12/2020 22:12

Second Grace & Frankie and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt. Both about women overcoming traumatic events and moving on but very very funny too and not dark. Especially Grace & Frankie. It had me howling.

Sorry it’s shit OP. It will get better. Hang in there Flowers.

EThreepwood · 28/12/2020 22:22

Bad Moms

FirewomanSam · 28/12/2020 22:24

I watched Grace and Frankie while I was going through similar. It was such a comfort, if you haven’t seen it it’s about two women in their 70s kind of rebuilding their lives after their husbands cheat on them and leave them.

fortygin · 28/12/2020 22:24

Sorry op, went through similar 4 years ago. Gilmore girls from the start was a godsend Flowers

CoRhona · 28/12/2020 22:43

Alice in Borderland.

You can fantasise they lose each game Wink

OkOkWhatsNext · 28/12/2020 23:04

Has to be Schitt’s Creek

qwertyuiop098 · 28/12/2020 23:37

So sorry OP, that is absolutely shit. Films where someone cheats but the heartbroken one comes out on top:

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Sliding Doors
Bad Moms

You can get through this Flowers

Stigsmother · 29/12/2020 00:09

Derry GirlsSmile

porcelaine · 29/12/2020 00:55

Emily in Paris really helped me escape this week, its a bit cheesy and rubbish but beautifully filmed and makes you smile. Netflix.

DBML · 29/12/2020 03:32

When I’m feeling sad I like to watch reruns of One Foot in the Grave. Always cheers me up!

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 29/12/2020 21:41

The Blacklist, Blindspot are two good TV series to get into.

HugeAckmansWife · 29/12/2020 21:54

Also been there. The first year I binged on Man in the High Castle.. Totally unrelated to the situation, escapism, but requiring concentration. But if you want something to feel better, there's a film which name u can't recall but it's Simon Pegg and Lake Bell. They're on a blind date of sorts and end up meeting up with his ex and her OM. Pegg leaves them to it and Bell chats to them casually 'so how did you get together' 'oh we fell in love'. 'but you had an affair?' 'well, you know, when it's love..' 'but you had an affair?' and so on. I bloody love it because all their bullshit star crossed lovers crap is completely pissed on and shown up for what it is.
