To be concerned about this rash?

Dd has a rash around her mouth, looks like little pin pricks that are purple, I've attached a photo. Does this look like something to be concerned about? No temp, fine in herself, the rash isn't raised or bumpy/scaly I've just never seen anything like it before 🤷🏼‍♀️

To be concerned about this rash?

Give the doctors / 111 a call, they may well send you up to the local hospital for some checks and some blood tests,
Has she rubbed her face against anything? Or itched it vigorously etc.
It can't hurt to get it checked out xx

cg88 · 28/12/2020 15:07

No not that I'm aware of, we haven't really been anywhere since before Christmas and other than eating more sweet stuff than usual she's not eaten anything out of the ordinary either. I didn't want to waste anyone's time by phoning out of hours or 111 when it could be nothing, was hoping someone had seen something similar before.

Does it go away when you press it?
If it doesn't 111 will send you straight to hospital, my DD always presents with a non-disappearing rash when she has a virus, it's just "her", and so far we've had 3 unnecessary hospital admissions for it. I know it's better to be safe than sorry but be warned they may keep you in.

cg88 · 28/12/2020 15:18

No it doesn't disappear 😔 I really want to avoid any hospitals, we're in a high risk area. I'm going to have to phone aren't I?

Can you get some antihistamine cream? It looks harmless. I'm

Winterwoollies · 28/12/2020 15:27

Don’t allow unqualified people on here to diagnose if you’re worried. Phone 111 and they’ll probably refer you to an out-of-hours GP who will request a photo and advise accordingly.

cg88 · 28/12/2020 15:28

I'm not allowing unqualified people to diagnose I was hoping someone may have seen something similar.

Could be perioral dermatitis. But get it checked. Sometimes hormones are CV blamed for it. Has she been given anything for Christmas that could have caused it?

Winterwoollies · 28/12/2020 15:32

I said not to allow unqualified people but then hazarded a guess myself 🤦🏼‍♀️ call 111 if you’re worried.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 28/12/2020 16:08

My daughter and husband get these if they've been leaning on something for too long. My daughter had a massive one on her arm from lying against her bed frame awkwardly. Could she have been resting her head on something like her hand or sofa?

MistletoeandGin · 28/12/2020 16:10

Mine had one exactly like this and I was proper panicked as I’d never seen anything like it before. Took her to the walk in centre and it turned out to be an allergic reaction to some lip gloss my mum had let her use. I gave her piriton and it was gone by the next day.
Has she used any different cosmetics to normal?

blackcurrantqueen · 28/12/2020 16:10

@cg88 I am a children's nurse, and whilst I'm sure it is nothing I do think it would be a good idea to get it checked out, especially as it doesn't go away when pressed. It looks like a small patch of petechial rash which can occur for a number of reasons, but to check it's nothing serious it's better to get her reviewed x

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/12/2020 16:13

Petechiae?

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/12/2020 16:15

Sorry, that refers to what it could be, but not why!

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/12/2020 16:16

Hadnt refreshed and x post with blackcurrant post.

DonLewis · 28/12/2020 16:16

That is so weird. My 8 yo son had this a couple of weeks ago. But more round his lips. I showed a school nurse friend who said it looked like bruising (I didn't think it did). She said if he was well in himself and it doesn't change, book a routine appt with the gp. But if became unwell or got worse to get immediate treatment.

It went away after about 24 hours. He had it once more that week and its not been back since. It was exactly like that picture.

cg88 · 28/12/2020 16:46

I called our out of hours doctors and because she's fine in herself and has no temp I should just watch and wait. If it spreads or she becomes unwell then it will be a&e, thanks for the advice everyone, better safe than sorry!
