Distress about eye floaters, seeking some positivity

Can anyone please offer me their positive experience with eye floaters, in that they either settle down or they bother you less as time moves on?
I have several cobwebby/ dotty ones going on in both eyes, had them about a month, have been opticians and they said they I would stop noticing them but I haven’t and now i have got myself in a bit of a state!
I also have tinnitus but am adjusting to that a bit better than months ago when it first started. Please only positive replies, I’ve already read lots of negative stuff and it’s really worried me.

I’ve got loooaaadsssssss.
If I look at a white wall or the sky I notice them.
Otherwise, not at all! They just become normal. I reckon the brain adjusts and you just stop seeing them after a while (unless you look for them! Typing this message has made me actually try to see them, and I can! But until this moment I had been going about my life without a second thought)!

They definitely do fade over time, that was the case with me anyway. I had two very noticible floaters in my left eye that caused me quite a bit of distress because I kept focusing on them. After a while I just stopped noticing them and they dont bother me at all now.

Mojomonkey · 28/12/2020 17:13

I want to say thank you again to everyone who has responded to me, you have no idea how much you have helped me x

I have quite a large one in my right eye, same eye that has an astigmatism. The opticians were very thorough in checking it and said it was fine but just down to basically old age as a pp said (I’m 40). I don’t always notice it but I’m hoping my brain will forget it’s there eventually.

Jakey056 · 28/12/2020 17:31

For the tinnitus have you gone to a chiropractor? Will help a lot.

pippapoo62 · 28/12/2020 18:05

I have eye floaters that look like shapes of shrimps, took me a few months to get used to them.

MrsRockAndRoll · 28/12/2020 18:07

I've also had them for years. I only tend to notice them if I'm tired of irritated by something on which case I notice them

lifestooshort123 · 28/12/2020 18:11

The eye clinic gave me an exercise to do - close both eyes and move eyes up and down (as far as they'll go) slowly and smoothly. This helps settle the floaters at the bottom where they're less noticeable - it really does work.

Serenster · 28/12/2020 18:29

I've had several for several years now. Three years ago a whole new crop appeared, so I went to A&E and was taken off to have immediate laser treatment to seal up the tears on my retina. I ended up very down after that as a result, thinking my vision would now be seriously compromised, but 3 years later I just don't notice them day-to-day.

ths1 · 28/12/2020 18:30

I have the same issue as you, cobwebby floaters from a retinal pull. The consultant told me eventually my brain would tune them out or they'd disappear, but also that they are more prominent in the summer. I've had these floaters for a year, some days they bother me more than others, but definitely not as bad as they were. When they first came, I found it particularly irritating looking at word documents on my pc with a white background but this has improved.

You have my sympathy, I think it's hard for others to understand how really frustrating they are.. I keep thinking that I wished I'd appreciated my crystal clear vision when I had it!

Basecamp65 · 28/12/2020 18:30

I had occular cancer a few years ago and the surgery and radiotherapy left me with a large patch of floaters and I really only notice them when I think about it.

Even if you lose an eye - and obviously this was a big possibility for me - your brain adjusts within a few months and you can see just as well.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 28/12/2020 18:45

Urgh I hate mine. I’ve had them for years but one in my right eye will always play tricks and I think there is spiders / flies coming for me! Most of the times I don’t notice them thankfully, but I was really distressed when I first noticed it when I was a teenager.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 28/12/2020 18:54

I suffer with floaters have done for years I find not thinking about them/ignoring them helps I also wear sunglasses a lot which massively helps!

helpfulperson · 28/12/2020 18:55

I have these arms liken the process of getting used to them to breaking u with someone. At first you think about them all the time, then only a few times a day, then you realise you haven't thought about them for a few days. Eventually you can't remember when you last thought about them. But occasionally something will remind you and they will on your mind for a bit.

Frustratedbypossiblescammers · 28/12/2020 19:00

I get them badly too, OP.

The optician checked them carefully and said it’s just my eyes getting older. That calmed me down and they are definitely better since I stopped worrying quite as much.

But they are a massive PITA. FlowersWine

DustyMaiden · 28/12/2020 19:03

I had an eye test last week. The optician said those floaters are nothing to worry about. I had not seen a single one before he said it. I do think I am tuned into them now.

Kiwiinparis · 28/12/2020 19:10

I’ve got both eye floaters and issues with my ears (not tinnitus but eustacian tube dysfunction which sometimes does give me ringing in the ears too). I notice the floaters a lot more if I’m out in bright sunlight or looking at something white - it did freak me out for several years (and I’m a huge hypochondriac and had to have CBT to help with this) so it’s just about finding a way to reassure yourself when you do notice them. I have notes on my phone that I went over in therapy which is a huge help!

NewyearNewme2021 · 28/12/2020 19:16

I have them. Prediabetic retinopathy in my case but I had a routine appointment a few weeks ago and things improved a bit and my blood sugars stabilising so doc not worried either. My sugars are just borderline of normal. Have insulin resistance due to PCOS so have to work hard at keeping them down though.

NewyearNewme2021 · 28/12/2020 19:17

What is odd is also hadn't noticed them until optician found that.blood vessels were breaking in backs of my eyes and told me to see
GP. Ever since then I been seeing them! But less so since eating better

Yep, the bright sunlight thing here too
Puddingypops · 28/12/2020 19:31

You will always see them in the snow sweetie, I’ve had loads for ten years I never notice them now UNLESS it’s like snow lol, or another plain bold bright background, and if I get poorly they seem to be more prominent. Don’t stress it’s only the snow making it seem worse xx

Mojomonkey · 28/12/2020 19:54

Thanks everyone, your comments are helping me feel that things will get better x

Distressed about eye floaters!!!

Hi everyone,
please could anyone give me positive stories about eye floaters. I started having them last year end of November and I panicked and went to the opticians. The opticians couldn’t find anything so they referred me to the hospital for further checks at the back of my eye. i got my eyes checked in the hospital opticians twice and they told me everything was fine and it was a bit of vitreous jelly that was detaching but until this day i still have them and i feel like they have gone worse. When i go outside all i can see is eye floaters some spot looking ones and some long strings floating across. I don't know how i am going to ignore them when i can see them when I go outside? Please can someone give me positive stories and how to deal with them. i feel so sad, I don't even think about them but they still appear in my vision
