We got a full size hoop for xmas, the sort you fix to a wall. For a 10 year old who isn't very good at it yet would you put it at full height (and what is full height?) or at a lower height?

Thank you very much in anticipation!!

Put it the correct height. Smile

Thank you very much, is that because it is better that children practice at the correct height right from the beginning? If so why do you see the adjusting uprights, which you are supposed to increase with the dc's size, do you know?

I don't suppose you know the correct height, from the top of your head?!

I used to play basketball in my younger days, I would say it depends if they want to have fun or learn how to play properly. If you put it at full height (which I cant remember) the number of baskets they will be able to score will be a lot lower, if they are going to get frustrated and disillusioned by this put it lower. You can always move it up later.

Isn't it 10'?
I don't think it matters how high you put it right now, tbh.
You may find the bonging action against the wall drives you nuts, if it's a house wall.

Not sure but here is our experience: We originally put ours up lower and he enjoyed being able to ‘dunk’ properly, but his (very short!) friend who had one full height was better practised/ able to get goals In basketball matches /PE at school. My son is relatively tall and by 13 anything less than full height wasn’t suitable.

Thanks everyone.

@ragged I can see the wall from the kitchen but it isn't a kitchen wall thank goodness! Just googled, it is 10 foot, thanks.
@Jeffjefftyjeff that is useful, I am tempted to put it low just for a couple of months then raise it maybe

I think ideally you should put it a full height, as it is a more realistic scenario if he plays at school.

But this might not be possible depending on the garden/if you need to attach it to something.

I wouldn't put it at full height just yet. At under 11 age group if you play for a club it is called mini basketball and the hoops are much lower (2.60m) They only move to full height hoops at U12 level.
